“The good and the bad”

My fMily of five stayed in this hotel overnight for the "park and fly" program. We had a two room suite. Our flight was fairly early the next morning, and sign up for the shuttle was simple. My family enjoyed the breakfast the next morning and then we hopped on board the shuttle and headed to the airport. This is the good!

Now the bad.....when we arrived back to the Portland airport I called form the shuttle. It was late at night. I believe it was almost 11 pm. I was told the shuttle driver was very busy, but she would arrive back to the airport in ten mins. We waited 20 mins and I called again. More apologies, very busy, she was coming. Finally the shuttle arrives. There was 7 in our party. Before we knew another family of five had started putting their luggage inside the shuttle. We all squeezed into the shuttle and headed for the hotel. Once we were underway one of the male passengers in the other realized the driver didn't turn where he thought she should have. He then informed her that they were staying in the Holiday Inn not HIE. Instead of her taking us to our hotel the Holiday Inn Express..the driver took them to their hotel. Then proceeded to drive back to the airport for more passengers! Stating she was only doing as she was told. We were finally taken to the hotel and she threw our bags out of the back of the van. We will never stay here again. You get what you pay for and this was no bargain or anyway to end our two week vacation to Hawaii.

“Convenient and comfy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

My husband, our adult daughter, and I stayed at this hotel the night prior to an early morning flight to Germany for our daughter. The staff was very friendly, the beds were VERY comfortable (with lots of extra pillows), the breakfast was tasty with something for everyone, and the shuttle service prompt and fast. The room and bath were clean and well-appointed. However, the have limited TV channel offerings---no PBS, and although listed, no CNBC. But, one can live without them for a night. After checking out, I had reason to call the hotel for extra help with the rewards program and found Kayla to be most helpful and efficient. I cannot say the same for the Rewards call center staff, who were uninformed and provided incomplete information to me. I think I will just work through the hotel staff in the future. We will stay here for all future airport-related overnights.

“Very welcoming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

Our stay here was very pleasant. We choose this hotel for their stay and fly package. Our room was newly remolded and the whole floor looked nice. When we first arrived I was a little worried about the airplane noise but once we were in our room it didn't bother us. The staff was very nice and prompt. The pick up at the airport upon our return was great.

“A little pricey for the level of room you get”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

The hotel is under construction and the entrances are not well marked. You actually enter another hotel's driveway to get to the entrance. Parking was fine - left vehicle there for a week for $40.00 (bargain at PDX) and they shuttle you to the airport. However the hotel is being remodeled as is the Holiday Inn nearby - so the lobby has plastic sheeting up the elevators are dirty and you are not quite sure if you got the newly remodeled room or an old one. If it was updated it looked like they salavged some dated but still usable stuff from another property. The bathroom was clean as were the linens. I'm forced to use this chain as a company thing so I'm pretty critical when the price is so high 125+ when the room is so average.

Room Tip: Ask for a newly remodeled room - until you are sure they are done.

“My recommendation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

We had a great vacation this past weekend in Portland and what made it a memorable time was our stay at the Holiday Inn Express. Let me just summarize this for you, so that it will be an easy decision when you next need to stay near the airport in Portland.
We checked in at the hotel on Friday evening with a "Welcome service with a Smile" from Joe at the reception. Professional check in with the least of hassles.
We had requested for a room with 2 Queen size beds and what did we get?
The room was large. Had 2 queen size beds. The bathroom was huge.
The room was very well furnished with a pleasant color scheme and ambience was certainly very comfortable. Clean carpets, clean ceiling, fresh clean sheets, fresh clean towels, clean bathroom. Lighting was good, wireless internet was available, complimentary coffee and tea in the room, micro-wave available and well stocked refrigerator. And all new as the hotel just completed an up-grading exercise. Also available in the room was the hair dryer and ironing board. Oh, and I checked out the wall unit air-conditioning system and that's also new.
So much for the room.
Breakfast was another great surprise. If this was the HIE standards then let me say this:
You have a mini fridge filled with choices of yogurt. You have hard boiled eggs, choices of cereals, a spread of cinnamon roles to breads and more breads, prepared hot bacon, scrambled eggs, oatmeal , pancakes, choices of juices, coffee n tea, jams, butter etc and hot chocolate, yes and fruit i.e. banana.
How can anyone eat so much and that is all complimentary!
And more importantly, we noticed that the housekeeping staff, the service staff and the reception manager were all so pleasant, polite and always have a ready smile. That will make anyone's day.
The check out was as hassle free as the check in. All done, ready in an envelope , slipped underneath your room door on the morning of your departure.
Finally, to go to your car parked securely in the hotel grounds, no additional fees to pay, you tell yourself, how can I not return to this same hotel again, when I am next in Portland.
You don't have to believe what I have written, just check in and check it out yourself.
Thank you Holiday Inn Express ! RonSIM-Vancouver BC
