“recently renovated!”

I have stayed at Washington Park for several years-it was always worn, but cheap.
Last year it got a major makeover, and while rooms are still basic, they are much more pleasant than before. Rates are a little higher, but this is still an excellent deal for the frugal traveler who wants to be in a quiet, pleasant area, close to downtown.
It is now under the management of the more upscale Park Avenue Suites across the street.

“good, but...”

Free parking, but it’s tight, unless you want to park at the sister hotel across the street. Room 209 was too dark and smelled musty; room 408 was much better. Spacious. King-size bed, full-length mirror. Elderly elevator – I was stuck in it for more than 10 minutes on my morning of departure. The elevator intercom to the outside wasn’t working, so we could not tell whether help was on the way.
I have stayed here four out of five visits to Portland, so I do like many things about it; it’s showing its age a bit now.

Thank you for your review and we appreciate your continued patronage.

I remember that early morning incident with our elevator not opening. I, on behalf of the rest of the staff apologizes that you had to endure that episode. The good new that has come from it was we were able to work with our elevator servicing company to ensure that this episode is never repeated and that if we have any other type of emergent situations that we can respond much more rapidly and with greater assurance and communication.

I am happy to say that our facility owners are doing some refreshment to our suites this winter so that by spring we can offer a much more invigorated product to you.

To clarify a comment, room #209 is the one suite that is tucked away in the back of the building. Some repeat guests will ask for that room specifically because it is the most private. It has the same amenities as the rest but it has less natural light. We are pleased that we were able to move you to a room that provided a better experience for you.

We look forward to your return and the pleasure of your company.

“Nothing Like The Website, if You Go with a Package Deal!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2010

We were offered The Park Lane Inn & Suites as an option as part of our vacation package (air fare, car, and lodging) on Expedia. From the Tripadvisor reviews, and from the Park Lane Inn and Suites website, we thought we were going to be offered a suite with a kitchen and a little living area (we're here in Portland for 5 days and 4 nights), because they only list their suites on their website. The motel rooms, the one where we're staying, are not shown or discussed. And, our room is in the motel across the street. It's much nicer, however, inside the room, than from the outside which looks rundown.

Our reservation said, "One queen bed," we got two, which takes up space and is unnecessary as I came with my spouse. There's a nice sized flat screen tv, the floors are wood-like, which is cool, and the bed is very comfortable. It's also very clean. The front desk staff was very friendly. They offer cookies and coffee and tea in the front desk area, and a continental breakfast, so I hear. Our stay includes parking, which is awesome -- right across from our room. They also offer free wi-fi!

However, there's no tub in our bathroom! And, no kitchen, no living area, and no amenities like I'm used to in standard hotel/motel rooms: There's no iron or ironing board, no place really to put supplies in the bathroom or shower, and no little place to sit down and relax in the room, because it's so small. And, our clothes are wrinkled from hours of flying (8). I'm sure we could find one from the friendly staff, but that's quite different getting one by walking down the street and across the road, rather than in your room.

The walls are so thin, we can hear our neighbors sneeze and walk across the floor upstairs; we were woken up early and then later on by the walking and the noise.

The decor is really lovely -- trendy & modern with nice sheets, and the flat-screened tv, as mentioned, and, the room is spotless, and clean. I hear the motel is dog-friendly, which is awesome, but you'd never guess it from how clean it is!

But, people, you need to know that the package deal offers a very small motel room, rather than a suite, and the Park Lane Inn & Suites people need to be clear about the rooms that are part of the inn versus the suites.

I would have liked to have known that the place advertised online was not what we were being offered. We would have gladly paid an additional amount for a suite.

We are happy you found us and are honored to have had you as our guest.

This was the first year where we added the inn building to our already existing all suites building. We did experience some misconceptions like yours this summer season and have tried diligently to illustrate the differences between the two building which house two distinctly different types of rooms.

The Inn, which you will see described at Standard Room - One Queen bed or Two Queen Beds on the booking websites, has smaller rooms than the suites and are typical of a standard motel room. They are a one room bedroom with a separate bathroom. We find it to be perfect for the urban traveler who is out enjoying the city more than spending time in the room. The hard floors were put in with the design of providing a clean - hypoallergenic environment. The inn is offered at a lower price point than the suites simply because they provide less amenities. We do find the inn to be a tremendous value in the downtown Portland market.

To clarify a couple of points, we do have irons and ironing boards available to lend at our front desk that can be delivered and could be kept in your room during your entire stay. We do offer pet friendly rooms but not at the inn. The inn is 100% pet free. We restrict those traveling with animals to the 2nd floor of our suites building so that we can provide specific deeper cleaning upon check out.

We hope that you visit Portland again soon and would enjoy your company.

The lobby was nice and the staff were friendly enough. They didn't mention the coffee and snacks, but we found them. The room had a horrible odor, either a dog was there or something was cooked there.....air freshener reduced it, but we were never able to eliminate the smell. Had already unpacked when we discovered the light above the bed didn't work and a bug crawling on the bedroom floor. The next night we discovered a similar bug on the living room floor. We stayed there for the location, but next time we would be willing to drive for a nicer place.

We appreciate your feedback. We are proud to offer Portland Roasting Company coffee as well as teas, cookies and whole fruit complimentary in our lobby 24 hours a day to all our guests. We apologize that it may have not been clear but are very happy you found them.

We do offer some select rooms at pet friendly rooms. They are restricted to the suites on the 2nd floor of our all suites building, which is the building that has the lobby with the refreshments. We do have a surcharge for deeper cleaning of the carpet and furniture and air purification after the pet has departed so that our arriving guests do not experience what you did. We apologize that this was the case with your stay. We very much value your comments of your experience because it helps us to improve and modify our procedures.

We do have an extensive pest control program in place. We use a highly reputable national company that specialty in hospitality facilities and we receive regular service from them. We are sorry that you did encounter a pest in your room as we strive to eliminate the possibility of a pest entering the room.

“Good location and GREAT service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 June 2010

Our stay at the Park Lane was so nice overall. There were a few things that were less than ideal, but mostly we were very happy with the place.

We stayed in Rm. 401, which is a 2 bedroom suite. The room was somewhat underwhelming, with cramped quarters that reminded me of European hotels. The dishwasher was four times louder than any dishwasher I've ever heard before despite being about 1/4 size. The bathroom was dark, the T.V. was smallish, and the refrigerator didn't seem to get cold.

Now for the positives. The room had a great view of the city and Mt. Hood. It also had windows that open and a functioning heating/cooling unit. The shower was fine. But the best part about our stay was the wonderful front desk service! Like a fool I did not write down the 2 men's names who did so much to help us get around Portland and figure things out, but they were outstanding.

Thank you for writing a review for us. We have five of the two bedroom suites like the one you occupied. They are all on the NE corner of our suites building and look out over downtown Portland and have a view of Mt. Hood when there are clearer skies. For those reading who may want to book a two bedroom suite, ask for a higher floor at booking. We would be happy to accommodate your request if one is available.

We did find that there was an issue with the refrigerator in your room #401 as it was freezing up. We have repaired that and have replaced that dishwasher altogether. We are hoping to update our televisions this winter. We thank you so much for your comments.

All members of our guest service staff has been with us a minimum of two years. They are very knowledgeable with the area and are passionate about making your stay as comfortable as possible.
