I had read others' reviews of the Washington Park Inn before we stayed there, and am really glad I did. When a hotel stay is as cheap as this place ($39/night in the middle of August, 2007), I'm usually afraid that it's going to be skanky or a house of drugs/prostitution/crime. But it's totally NOT! As others have said, the Washington Park Inn is in a great section of town. It's not far from Washington Park, and it's not so far from downtown (2 miles, maybe??) that you can't walk if you really want to -- we did! It is indeed an older hotel (1960s) without a lot of updates, but it's safe and clean, and that’s what we care about the most. If you're into luxury, you're not going to be happy here, but if price and decent accommodations are important to you, you'll be just fine!
Pros of the Washington Park Inn: Cost; continental breakfast included; location/neighborhood; clean sheets; refrigerator in room; cable TV; soap and shampoo provided.
Cons of the Washington Park Inn: Stained carpet; room dark/not enough light; old and cracked linoleum in bathroom; faded curtains; bed kinda soft (I rolled towards the middle!).
