My husband and I were traveling home from a trip to Washington and stayed a the Compass Rose for one night. The hosts have a done a marvelous job creating a very peaceful and relaxing retreat. The room we stayed in was beautiful and very comfortable. The surrounding area is so peaceful. We truly enjoyed our visit.

We stayed 2 nights and had excellent nights of sleep and delicious (and creative) breakfasts. I can confirm all of the lovely things that other reviewers have said about the owners, the location, and so on. This is a great place and a lovely property with views of a lake, easy access to the ocean, and excellent birding opportunities. The restaurant recommendations (esp. Redfish) were wonderful.

A suggestion to the owners: The large common rooms are big but for some reason not very warm or welcoming. Perhaps they need more furniture or better lighting? We felt more comfortable in our rooms, whereas at other B&B's, we usually hang out in the common rooms and meet the other guests. In this case, the other guests apparently felt the same way, because no one spent time in the common rooms.

My husband and I stayed one night during a week long bicycle ride down the Oregon coast. We called Doug at 7:30am the day we planned to ride through Port Orford to see if he had a room available that same evening. Luckily for us - he had a room and was very kind and warm on the phone. After a long day on our bicycles we pulled into a BEAUTIFUL and IMMACULATE home! Our host Doug found a spot for our bikes and even though we were a little grungy, he kindly welcomed us into his home. Karen's homemade biscotti was delicious and went perfectly with the hot tea selection. Our room was beautiful and the bed was really comfortable. After a restorative 10 hours of sleep, we finished our stay with a delicious breakfast made by Doug. The home is in a really beautiful nature setting and we'd love to return some day for a longer visit and to explore the area.

All of the above reviews accurate. Too bad more travelers can't spend a few days, rather than one night. Red Fish was a marvelous restaurant - definitely could go back for two nights or to Paula's. My daughter and I shared a room with a VERY comfortable pull out couch. She beach combed; I sipped wine, read, watched birds. My only regret - I did not see the bunnies frolicking in the garden! Next time I will make an appointment.!
