“Timeshare rental -- nice, but small with partial kitchen”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We traded a timeshare week for this resort, and were relatively pleased. The biggest problem is that it was a "studio", which meant that it was very small and also had only a small refrigerator and a microwave and NO dishwasher (except me!). We ended up buying an electric skillet for cooking, and that helped a lot. Another problem is that the check-in office is not on site, and it's a royal pain to find in the dark. That said, we enjoyed a great week in Newport. Weather was exceptionally sunny (it was November) and we enjoyed being out and about the town.

The view of the harbor from the resort is fascinating -- we found ourselves enjoying all the harbor activity, even though we usually prefer a beachfront location. The way the resort is situated, I think that all units have great views.

Room Tip: If you are unable to navigate stairs, be sure to make that clear upon making your reservation.

“Adequate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We pulled in at 7pm on Jan 5 with no reservation. They were able to accommodate us and offered an upgraded suite or an older suite. We needed 2 seperate bedrooms and were willing to pay for a second suite if needed. We needed it for two nights ( thurs/ fri). The front desk agent was helpful and did the math for each scenario. I opted to decline looking at the older suite as the difference was less than $15 per night per suite. We paid ~$240 for a marina view on the second floor with the adjoining suite being upstairs on the third. It was a nice view.
As far as the suites, they were clean and reminded me of a 1980s ski pad I stayed in years ago. The bedroom lighting was very dim and the kitchen/dinning room was overpowering. I unscrewed some bulbs and repositioned the fixtures. The LR lighting was dependant on the other rooms light. The fireplace was a nice touch and we asked for a second fireplace log and the young man was accommodating. The Wi-Fi was anoher story. Very weak signal in the DR/LR but stronger in the BR.
Basically useless as we are in the LR
More. We ended up tethering from our iPhones for a signal. Our
Travelling companion complained that there should be directions on turning on the heater and that the rates seemed a little high for off season. Although adequate, for being the "upgraded" versions I really wonder what the older models must look like.

“My Stay at Embarcadero was horrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

First they gave me the wrong keys and wrong directions to our room. Then the food was horrible. Service was terrible and people were rude. Charged us an extra 150.00 for eating not cooking crab in room. We bought the crab already cooked and then took it back to our kitchen to eat it. The person I talked to L.T. was no help and said she owns the Embarcadero she can do whatever she wants and I am out $150.00 Merry Xmas. Will never stay there again or refer anyone to that place

Room Tip: stay somewhere else old and run down

“timeshare rental - not hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

The condos are run by Vacations International and are timeshares that are currently unoccupied by the losers who own them. Check in, check out is a two mile roundtrip away from the "hotel", and they enforce a strict 4:00 pm check in, We wouldn't pay a dollar a night to stay in this place again.

Room Tip: Run, don't walk away from this place.
