“Love this place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

The Moolack may not be the fanciest place but it has the important stuff for me. A kitchen where I can cook my fresh seafood bought on the bayfront in Newport. A comfortable bed to sleep in. Fireplaces. Small place so there is no noise. Easy access to towns if I want them. BEACH FRONT!!! Just steps to miles of beach. We go there at least once a year.

“Amazing View in Quaint Hawaiian Room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

We stopped midweek during a rainy roadtrip in November and after viewing a few rooms we jumped on the opportunity to stay in the Hawaiian Roomm which we were told people reserve months in advance. Corner windows provided fantastic views of the ocean surf and lighthouse. We had a rare burst of sun and ran out onto the deck to greet seagulls and enjoy a glass of wine watching the sunset. The room was so cozy and fun -- tropical birds hanging from the ceiling, surf boards, shells and beads. it really jazzed up a grey day. The kitchen is very basic - but worked for our simple dinner of omelets. The bathroom was tiny. But these are small inconveniences for the amazing view and ambience of Moolack Shores Motel. The bed was comfy, service was friendly, and we would definitely return!

“Even better”

Went back to Moolack Shores Motel for the 2nd year in a row. This time we stayed in the Hunting Lodge room (Suite). We liked it a little better than the Oregon Room. Both are very nice though. The TV was upgraded and the theme made it feel a little more rustic. The room was clean. As others have noted, the furniture is a little worn, but that's part of the charm. As you read the journals, in the room, and people are talking about spending their honeymoon 40 years ago there you can picture it, because probably a lot is the same. The big bed was wonderful. It was very nice to go to sleep with the sound of the ocean. Two minor complaints... need to look at restocking the kitchen. Plates and silverware were plentiful, but a baking sheet would be nice. Second, it would be nice to have a screen on the sliding glass door. I wanted to have some of the ocean breeze without the bugs. Very minor issues though. While visiting Moolack we went to Newport one day and enjoyed the bay front shops. We had lunch at Port Dock One. This place has a great view of the boats, the bridge, and the Sea Lions. We visited Yaquina Head lighthouse (the lighthouse seen from the motel) and got rained on but enjoyed the place. We visited Depoe Bay one day and had lunch and walked around the shops there. A must is to go to the Whale Watching Center. We learned how to watch for whales there and even saw one. Later that day we went back to Moolack Shores and sat on our deck and watched whales through binoculars (one pair provied by the motel and one pair of our own). Wonderful experience. We will be back ASAP.

Room Tip: I think the Oregon Room or the Hunting Lodge are the best

“Great location and views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

We have stayed at many of the hotels and motels in the Newport OR area over the years. A first for us one rainy weekend at the start of October was the Moolack Shores Motel. Needing a place that offered a kitchen along with an ocean view so we could entertain some family members for a small dinner party the motel turned up in our internet search. Located at the northern most end of Newport and very near the popular Beverlery Beach State park, and a short drive to the always interesting Depoe Bay village, the property offered great ocean and lighthouse views even in cloudy and rainy weather. Offering a dozen rooms in various themes we had the Lighthouse room with a small kitchen, table and four chairs, a sitting area with sofa and recliner, nice sized flat screen television and a fireplace. A seperate bedroom with a king size bed and bathroom made up the suite. While positioned as a corner room as opposed to a direct oceanfront room our view did not suffer at all, as the coast line curved away in front of us. Sitting on the sofa in front of the fireplace one had a direct view out of the window over the ocean towards the lighthouse. A small but quite adequate sized deck made for even more direct ocean viewing. We loved the lighthouse theme and all of the memorbilia gathered in the rooms. I think the owners are sensitive to possible damage that could be done to their collections and are more comfrotable with adult clients. We found the rooms to be clean and well maintained. The property is not new and the motel is popular and frequently full so there will be some wear and tear that is inevitable. We spent three nights and enjoyed our stay very much. The owners even presented my wife with some freshly made cookies she had just taken out of the oven one afternoon. Delicious. This is an excellent getaway location for individuals or couples looking for that non chain hotel experience in a great coastal location. When we would travel to Newport with our young grandsons, as we often do, we would choose one of the larger hotels with their indoor pools and more central locations. Staying on our own the Moolack Shores is a perfect choice.

“A treasure on the Oregon Coast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

My wife and I have been going back for 33 years, delighted with every visit. The comfortable, homey rooms are quiet but for the sound of surf and call of gulls. From the deck on a 5 mile beach are ocean vistas with a lighthouse, seabirds, and sunsets. Nearby are the many delights of Newport to enjoy, especially wonderful eating places. The proud hosts, Frank and Yvette are especially friendly and helpful.
