This hotel is perfectly situated right across from the beach and within steps of Nye Beach. Very friendly staff, and very dog friendly hotel. We stayed New Year's weekend, but it didn't feel crowded or busy. After walking everywhere, the room offered a nice relaxing stay with a great view, and our own private balcony (our black lab loved sitting out there watching the seagulls). The beds were comfortable and the continental breakfast was mainly just bagels and muffins, but nice to tide you over til a late brunch. We had a lovely stay at the Whaler and would recommend it to those wanting to relax at the beach with their furry friends.

This place was excellent! They allow dogs, have super comfy beds with a foam top, have great views of the ocean, are across the street from the beach, and have a very tasty coffee/breakfast setup. The best part of all is that the Whaler is family-owned and family-run. The family lives in Newport. It's also just a few blocks from the historic downtown where there are plenty of restaurants with great food and live music.

They also allow dogs, which was great for us. But you are required to be with your dog at all times.

The bed is long enough for my 6'2" husband, and it is Just Right. Firm and cushiony. The non-handicapped accessible room has doors wide enough for his wheelchair. Elevator got us to third floor. The bathroom has separate switches for turning on the fan, which is a joyous thing for me, because I hate fans that come on when you turn the light on.

Continental breakfast is... ok, muffins, dry cereal, 2 % milk and half/half, teabags, cocoa bags. House coffee is good. Don't touch the house orange drink.

No on site restaurant.

One of the best maintained hotels I've ever been in.

My husband and I recently took our two young girls to Newport for the night. We have stayed here many times on our own but this time bringing our children for the first time. We loved the 2 Queen bed mini suite, and the 3rd floor is a must for the view! The Whaler is always so convenient to everything, great location, friendly helpful staff, and don't forget the complimentary popcorn served in the lobby! The continental breakfast was just perfect for our small family. The pool is nice too, although we didn't use it this time. Nice to have great fitness equipment too!
