“Reasonably priced but noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2009

Spent one night here. Was reasonably priced. Because there is no air conditioning (we were unaware at time of check in), we had to have window open. Very noisy traffic throughout night caused frequent wakings. Sluggish toilet did not flush properly. Continental breakfast setting nice - no juice available though. Average budget hotel. Keep in mind there is no elevator if you're booked on upper floors...long way to carry luggage.

“There's a reason it's cheap!”

We were in a non-smoking room that smelled smoky every time we ran the bathroom fan. Also, people stood outside the entrance smoking & it floated up. They had the smallest queen size beds I've ever seen. The office didn't open until 8, so I'm not sure if they had a breakfast (as advertised) because my husband gets hungry at 6:00 a.m. There's a really great Pig N Pancake up the road. The internet worked really well. I would NEVER stay there again.

“Acceptable Budget Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2008

Typical Econo Lodge, which informed travelers realize is simply a "budget" option. As such, the hotel is an OK choice for $45-60, but a total rip off if you're paying $70++, as we did. The room was clean (floors, bedding, towels, furniture), with a basic continental breakfast & a pleasant staff, but probably the smallest bathrooms we have ever encountered in a US chain hotel property. The bathroom was clean but TINY. If you just need a simple place at a budget price (meaning less that $60) then the place is OK. However, travelers need to be forewarned if they book on the Choice Hotels website [--], which represents Econo Lodge, Comfort Inn, Quality, Sleep Inn, Clarion, Cambria & Mainstay Suites. We have repeatedly found the rates for their properties to be a rip off. We have never --- repeat NEVER -- booked a hotel on this website, where the rate would not have been significantly less, if we had called the hotel directly. A perfect example is our stay at this hotel. Our website rate was $71, but when we arrived at the hotel their outside sign posted rates "from" $44. So, before we entered the hotel we called the front desk & asked if they had rooms & was told "yes". We asked the rate for 2 persons with 2 beds, for "that" evening, & was quoted a rate of $54. We simply thanked the receptionist who took the call, waited 5 minutes & went inside to check-in. When we requested the $54 rate, instead of the $71 rate the website had confirmed, the desk clerk (who was very polite & apologetic) said: "I am forbidden to adjust rates that are booked on the Choice Hotels website". When we asked to cancel the reservation in order to get the $54 rate, he pointed out that there was a 24 hour cancellation clause that would have to be invoked. In other words, they knowingly have to rip off guests because of the miserable contracts they have with Choice Hotels. As such, I would merely advise people to avoid booking on www.choicehotels.com, & simply call the hotel direct, where you will invariably get a better rate.

“Over Priced for a dump!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2008

We got there late Friday night. There were only 3 hotels in town that had rooms available. So we thought we hit the jackpot for getting a room! YEAH RIGHT!?!?! It was on the 3rd floor, no elevator. I have bad knees and the stairs was murderous. Hardly any parking at all. No air conditionings in any of the rooms. The room was stuffy, very tiny. Toilet did not flush, called downstairs they sent up a plunger! There was a mold on the shower walls and no hot water in the bathroom sink. Contential breakfast? If that is what you call boxed Hostess doughnuts and toast with extra strong coffee and hot orange juice. It was so hot in the room that we could hardly sleep; our bed felt like it had a spring coming through it. For $149 for one night should have been the “HILTON” instead we paid that for a dump! Next day we got into the Chinook Winds Casino Motel for $89. 500% better room for over ½ the cost! I do not recommend this motel Econo Lodge. It should be renamed to Econo slums!

  • Liked — We got a room at the last minute.
  • Disliked — It was a dump with no pool, no a/c, 2 blocks to the beach, way over priced! It is not the Hilton!

Thank you for your review of our property. First I'd like to addess your discontent over your room rate. You posted a photograph of a
sign which reads a rate for Sunday-Thursday. At that time, we did rent rooms at that rate Sunday-Thursday. At this writing in August, our promo rooms start at $49.99. After peak season, our rate will decrease again, keeping in line with other properties in town. You wrote that you stayed on a Friday night so our Sunday-Thursday rate would not apply to you. As for the rate you paid ($149)- less expensive rooms were available earlier that day. Like the airline industry, less expensive rooms are rented first and what's left before we reach no vacancy are our premium rooms which cost quite a bit more. (First class vs. coach) Rooms were available from $89.99 that day. Unfortunately you did not reserve a room nor did you rent a room earlier in the day to secure this rate. As stated previously, all we had available were our most expensive rooms. Even at the rate of $149, our price was in line with other properties in town. If you did an Expedia search for that day, you would have found that we had the third to the lowest prices available in Lincoln City. Two AAA, two star properties were renting rooms by that afternoon for over $219. They have elevators and air conditioning. I'm perplexed why you didn't choose one of those properties as it seems they had features which were important to you. As for the parking situation- perhaps you did not notice that we have two parking lots- one adjacent to the building and one across the street. Even with a full house and some RVs and boats, we have ample parking to accomodate guests' cars. When a toilet does not flush, we use a plunger to clear it up. It sounds like this method worked in your case. If we are told of any problems or concerns, we do our best to make things right within 15 minutes. My log shows that there were no complaints concerning rooms the night you stayed. There were two maintenance/housekeeping issues- one, a toilet which needed to be plunged and a phantom flush from another toilet. Both were corrected the same night according to our log. No one called to the front desk about lack of hot water in their rooms. We have two commercial hot water boilers which can provide hot water to up to 80 rooms plus laundry. If I were a guest who had found mold in the shower, I personally would have called to front desk and made them aware. No such call was received. We implement a cleaning program that's recommended by Choice Hotels International where we go through a checklist of items for each room to assure that the rooms are up to standard. Of course no one is perfect and sometimes things get missed, but we strive for perfection in cleanliness. I am perplexed about your doughnut comment. We have not served doughnuts at this motel in almost two years. The doughnuts we used to serve were bought from a local bakery and not Hostress, by the way, but again, that was nearly two years ago. The orange juice is kept in a dispenser which holds ice in the center and has an electric cooling feature which aids in keeping the juice cold and up to Health Department standards. Because we do not have air conditioners, we offer fans to our guests. We also tell guests if they inquire, that our motel does not have air conditioners. If a guest checks in assuming we do and decides they would rather not stay because we don't have them in our rooms, we issue a refund promptly so long as they have not stayed in the room for an excessive amount of time. Our beds are a little over a year old and are Serta and Sealy mattresses. This property was inspected by AAA three weeks ago and Choice Hotels International two weeks ago and we passed with solid scores. I am sorry you did not have a pleasant stay at Econo Lodge. It sounds like you were looking for some features which we didn't offer, but you could have gotten if you had stayed at another motel in Lincoln City. As you stated, two other motels had rooms available. It would be helpful to know why you still chose our property knowing that we serve a light continental breakfast, don't have elevators, and don't have air conditioning. We are certainly not the Hilton and I believe that if there was a Hilton in Lincoln City, they would command prices higher than even the $200+ motels. We rented rooms Saturday from $89 and up, just like the Chinook Winds Casino hotel. It sounds like you found a hotel which you're pleased with in Lincoln City and I'm glad because we are all in this business to create good memories for guests. Thank you again for your review.

“Great Motel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2007

Drove in late in the evening with no reservations and we were greeted in a friendly and professional manner. The motel staff was very helpful and courteous. We received a military discount and our room was great with 2 queen size beds in it. We were traveling with 2 adults and a 6 yr. old.
Our room was clean, beds very comfortable and no noise heard from other rooms.
In the morning we were able to go to the office and get hot coffee, juice, muffins and other healthy snacks which worked great having a 6 yr. old to feed.
We would definately stay here again and encourage others to try the motel.
