We are currently staying at the Sandcastle Motel. There are plenty of pluses for this motel. It is off Hwy 101 so traffic noise is non existent. I love that. Your room is right on the ocean and the view is spectacular. As this is my first time staying at this property my real only complaint is that as we are on the second of three floors either the people above us have lead feet or there just is not a lot between the floors to absorb the noise. I am trying to walk softly as to not disturb the people below us because it is really annoying. But for the price we paid and the location it is great. The room has a small space type heater in the wall, a gas fireplace, a fridge, and a microwave. The bed is a little hard, but nothing too bad that is not tolerable as well. If it were not for the loudness coming from above me I would have given it a full excellent rating. If you are planning on booking and are able, ask for the top floor. The last thing is that when we arrived the staff was not on premises. You push a pager button and the staff comes from across the street. We arrived at 7:30PM. The office fully closes at 10PM. We were also asked to pay for our stay up front upon arrival. Needless to say while not perfect, the Sandcastle Motel is worth staying at.
My husband and I spent our anniversary weekend at the Sandcastle this past weekend (Dec 17-18, '11). As in our past visits (4 to 5,so far), we had a terrific time. We always stay in one of the rooms with the reclining chairs and kitchenette. We love pulling the recliners up to the wall of window and just sitting, watching the waves, fishing boats, and sunsets. Waking to the sound of the waves is something NOT to be missed. A walk on the beach is always a must and the beach is so accessible. The front office staff are always very friendly and helpful. The young lady working the front desk on Saturday morning steered us in the direction of the Nelscott Cafe which is within walking distance of the motel. The young man in the evening provided us with several dinner options which proved to be "spot on" (same as the breakfast suggestion). On Sunday evening we enjoyed the swimming pool and the hot tub - watching the sunset as we relaxed from a day of shopping. On any of our next visits to Lincoln City, we will most definitely be staying at the Sandcastle.
I have stayed at the Sandcastle a number of times due to the great location - right on the beach and very nice staff and managers. A big plus was always their very reasonable rates and the rooms were nice. However, I won't be staying there any more due to the noisy type of people who seem to be attracted to the Sandcastle now. The office is not open all night and the last 2 to 3 times I've gone, some of the residents have been so rude about getting drunk and loudly partying until after 2:00 a.m. or actually climbing out on the roof right next to our balcony and then loudly talking after midnight. Both times staff had to be woken up to address the problem, then they go right back to bed and the ignorant renters went right back to their rude behaviors. When you don't have staff to do some monitoring it seems you begin attracting the bad behaviors.
My boyfriend and I recently went to the beach for our first out of town date, and we originally got a room some where else.. IT WAS DISGUSTING.. He knew of this hotel and called and made a reservation. Very romantic, comfy bed, great view!! Best hotel experience I have had in a long time... Hotel staff was very friendly! And it was nice the room was actually CLEAN! :-)
