We were traveling with our dog, so were grateful to locate the pet-friendly Ester Lee. We were shown several rooms, all with views, but one (cottage 1?) had a strong odor of animal urine. We told the receptionists about the smell, and they identified that it was a problem that would be corrected. They offered us a different cottage with an amazing view, the sounds of the sea lulling us to sleep (cottage 2). Unfortunately, the view from the bed was obstructed by a large window that had a leak or broken seal. However, everything else was perfect, including the delightful kitchen. Well, we went back three weeks later, were shown the same cottage with the aforementioned smell - and the smell was just as strong. We asked the receptionist about the smell, she apologized, said the carpets had just been cleaned, but when she came over to review the room, she agreed that it still reeked of urine. The solution was to give us a bottle of air freshener! We stayed one night and they moved us to a different room. They clearly care about the institution but just haven't been successful at eradicating odors!

The Ester Lee was a fantastic stop on our trip. The free wood for the fireplace, alternate room when ours became unavailable (upgraded!), dog riendly and great staff made our visit to Lincoln City memorable. Don't orget to stop at the Otis Cafe for breakfast on your way back towards Portland!

This is an adorable retro style old school hotel; views can't be beat; very cool about pets in the cottages and comfortable. Great deal for the price.

First off let me say. that you simply can't beat the views from the Ester Lee. The large windows provide excellent views, either from the cottages or the motel rooms. We have stayed in both the cottages and the motel over the past 10 years and have always enjoyed our visits. The motel is like the cottages in they both are in need of updating. Although the carpeting and paint in the motel rooms are more up to date than the cottages. The motel room at the east end on the second floor takes about 5 minutes to get hot water, but when it finally gets there, it is plenty hot. The appliances are out dated but they work. The oven door glass is screwed on and not very safe in our opinion. The rooms are always clean when we arrive, and well stocked with dishes, cups, glasses, etc. Bath towels were plentiful, but a bit worn. Check-in was OK, but very adamant about the 3 PM check-in, and kept repeating the room will not be ready until 3 PM. Check-out was much better. The easy chairs are in desperate need of replacement, unless you don't mind sitting just above floor level. The couch appeared to be relatively new and was fine, the table chairs were too low to sit at the table and eat comfortably. The mattress was OK, better than some worse than some. Week nights are a little expensive for what you get. We have stayed in nicer for the same price. We have been happy in the past at the Ester Lee, but we were disappointed this time and probably will stay else where in the future.
