Actual rating: 2.5 stars, but I am not willing to round up to three for this place.
The hotel itself could stand a complete (inside, outside, everything) upgrade and updating. The lobby and public areas are pretty dated, but clean and overall just fine. Our room looked like there was a nod toward updating the room, but that it was done in a haphazard, "let's throw this at the wall and see if it'll stick" way. The bed appeared newer (everyone's copying the Heavenly Bed or some version thereof at this point) and a small couch did as well, but otherwise this appeared to be a standard mid-eighties hotel room - especially the bathroom.
Couple of things that drove this rating down from a three:
1. We arrived and checked in around midnight. When we opened the door to our room, it felt as though someone had left a window wide open (it is January, and there is snow on the ground in spots). Yes, it was THAT cold, we could see our breath; it honestly must have been in the mid-forties in our room. Chalk that up to a new travel experience: the Polar Bear Room. In the middle of an igloo? Yes, we were. We set the heat on at 70 degrees and went to bed fully clothed and miserable, cowering and shivering under the covers. Needless to say, we did not sleep well. The temp finally got up to 67 degrees around 6AM - good lord.
2. As has been mentioned in previous reviews, the shower head is really low. To give you a better idea, I am 5' 3" on a good day and I conked my head on the thing a few times while trying to get clean.
3. Speaking of the shower and trying to get clean, I had an "ICK!" moment in the shower. I turned on the water to bring it up to temp and when I reached for the little button to turn the shower on, my hand got tangled in someone else's long hair. Ewewewewewewewewewew! Seriously, I was grossed out. Not just one strand, but what appeared to be a clump. After untangling myself and trying to make the most of it, I managed to get Someone Else's Hair off my hand and then took one of the quicker showers I have ever managed, just to get out of that gross place.
Lesson here: sometimes you get what you pay for. Priceline gave us this room for $60. However, Priceline also just gave us a room tonight at the Benson Hotel in downtown Portland for $66, so that is where we will be staying this evening. No more Crowne Plaza for us, and I will not be recommending this place to anyone. If you need to stay in the Lake Oswego area, shoot for the Holiday Inn Express - much better reviews, kids.
