We had wanted to visit Joseph, Oregon, an artists' community, with a specialty in bronze castings, in the heart of the Wallowa Mountains, Oregon's Alps, for some time. As part of a trip to Banff, we finally had the opportunity to visit. On the web we found Belle Pepper's, booked it, and found it to be everything we expected. The house was beautiful, a block off the main street in Joseph, comfortable, and welcoming. The hosts, John and Pepper McColgan, were gracious and informative, and wanted us to treat Belle Pepper's as our home. Our room was large, airy, and comfortable. There are only three guest rooms, which added to a home-like feeling. There were great communal breakfasts, beautiful grounds, and a wonderful living room for evening conversation and/or reading.

I love this home! It was built in the early 1900's and was the mayor's home for the little town of Joseph. The back drop of the big Wallowa mountains is breathtaking. The caretakers, John and Pepper, are wonderful caring people. The decor suits the house and the meals were fabulous! My husband and I have stayed there twice and the second time we took my parents who have traveled all over the world and they "loved" it. We will continue to visit there at least once a year as it is such an enjoyable place to stay.

When a long-planned, first trip to Eastern Oregon finally came about for me and my husband last September, we were ready for a vacation that was really special. Our idea was to blend hiking and outdoor adventure with the finer comforts of Belle Pepper's B&B in Joseph, OR. Nature made sure the outdoor adventure piece was in place. John and Pepper, the hosts of Belle Pepper's, graciously offered the finer comforts.

John and Pepper made the process of reserving the room friendly, efficient and trouble-free. They warmly addressed questions about dietary constraints and cheerfully agreed to a plan that allowed us to ship our hiking poles to the B&B ahead of our arrival.

We were tired after the long drive from Boise but once we arrived at Belle Pepper's, the registration process was quick and easy. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable and the bathroom was roomy and spotless. We stayed for a week and the service was of a consistently high-quality throughout~~~hot coffee ready every morning for the early risers, delicious breakfasts substantial enough to get our hikes off to a good start, hints and tips about the area, both city and backcountry, freely offered. Here we found lively conversation, easy laughter and the most incredible place to lay a trail-weary body at the end of the day.

Before we had even said our good-byes we were already planning to return soon.

Pepper and John were wonderful hosts for a perfect get away from the city. We enjoyed our beautiful room with views out three sides. Could see river, town and mountains. Walked to town every day which took 7 minutes! Lovely sitting area where we played games and visited with our hosts. Recommended this place to numerous friends and family.
