Rooms were clean and up to date. Frig was a pleasant surprise. Pool and hot tub could have used a hose down as dirt and dust had been accumalating for a while. ASK FOR A ROOM FAR AWAY FROM THE FRONT DESK PHONE'S REMOTE BELL. This is a fire alarm like bell located on the ground floor at the inside corner of the "L" shaped building. Everytime the front desk phone rings, this bell will ring too. It alerts the hotel staff of incoming phone calls when they are away fromt he front desk. I was on the upper floor and not too bothered by it but if you had a room on the ground floow near the inside corner, it would drive you crazy.

I have stayed in John Day on multiple work trips, and the Best Western is far and above any other hotel in town. It is nicer than most other Best Westerns I have been to. The bedding is top notch so you sleep well, which makes up for nice but slightly outdated bathrooms. Each room has a flat screen, mini fridge, coffee maker, and wifi. Breakfast is available downstairs, with waffle maker, and other standard fare.

The a/c worked well. Very quiet room. New beds & bedding. Excellent staff. Dinner literally across the street. Breakfast was ok. I personally prefer hot eggs but there was a variety of things to eat. Good coffee. The only downside for me was the hot tub was not very hot and the switch didn't work very well. The pool was a little cloudy in the water but I did not swim in it. Best nights sleep on this long road trip so far.

I have stayed at the Best Western in John Day for fifteen years and have been very satisfied with the accommodations...unfortunately the economy appears to have driven the government rates up logarithmically. We paid more to stay in John Day ($113 per nite) than in more urban communities around Oregon (eg. Bend, Pendleton, Baker City). The amenities are terrible...plastic cups, poor internet, cold breakfast...I will make arrangements to take my government rate to another vendor. Our government deserves better rates and accommodations.
