“Perfect Experience at Villa Columbia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

Truly a special place, we enjoyed our stay at Villa Columbia two years ago and this September again. Everything was perfect: the location, the views, the room and the host. Our breakfast included lots of fresh fruit, local products and delicious coffee. We stayed at the White Salmon room and the room was very comfortable and cozy. We loved it so much and we will be back again.

“Nice folks, but overpriced and cramped”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2011

If you're looking for a spacious room with a view of the beautiful Columbia River, look elsewhere. The best thing about this location is that it's within walking distance of downtown Hood River and some great restaurants. It is not, however, the best place for viewing the river.

Our feeling is that the owners have maximized the number of rooms and sacrificed customer comfort. Our room was a very small corner room with a "partial view" of the river. That is, the tiny window facing the river caught the edge of the roof and offered a small view of the distant river. The bed was comfortable, the sheets were very good quality. The bathroom was workable but small. There are 16 narrow stairs from the parking lot to the foyer and another 17 to the upstairs rooms. Pretty difficult for anyone with a disability if not impossible. The house is located on a corner, with the front street quite busy and noisy. Even in the back of the house upstairs, we could hear the road noise.

All that said, the owners are very nice people and the breakfast was delicious. The homemade scones are the best we've ever had. It can be served in an interior dining room or on the lovely enclosed porch that really does have a river view. There is a common area room with a small outdoor seating area, free Wi-Fi throughout the house and a computer available if you don't have your own. The kitchen is available for tea at all times. Upstairs, there is a small "sun room" which is in fact two nice couches facing each other with a small window that overlooks the street and can supply some relief from the very small rooms. There is a mini fridge with free water and soft drinks in that room as well.

We love B&Bs and stay in them regularly as we travel. Overall, we thought the Villa Columbia was expensive for what they have to offer. Since it is rated #1 on TripAdvisor, maybe we just don't know what else is out there in Hood River, but that's our assessment without that knowledge. We highly recommend the Hood River area, but were disappointed in this B&B.

“very comfortable and close to town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

We enjoyed our stay in Hood River very much. The B&B was very comfortable and Boba was very helpful. We stayed in the deschutes room (2 adults and 2 kids). We fit ok but it was nice to have the other sitting rooms throughout the house. The breakfast views were beautiful! We white water rafted with Wet Planet- great group and lots of fun!

“Breakfast was superb!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Nice b&b within walking distance to town - very homey and comfortable! There was a bit of road noise during the night which woke us around midnight - there seemed to be lots of diesel trucks, probably belonging to other tourists! The best breakfast of our trip to the Columbia River Gorge area was the reward though...

“Wonderful B&B! Great vegetarian breakfast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

We stayed here for a weekend getaway and enjoyed every aspect of our stay at the Villa Columbia. Boba was a wonderful host, helping us with our plans for the weekend and beyond! She was very accommodating and made delicious breakfasts--her vegetarian adaptations were wonderful! The B&B itself was very clean and inviting, and in a great location close to downtown Hood River. We had a lovely visit! Thank you!
