We spent 2 nights at the Columbia Cliff Villa's. If you want a drop dead gorgeous view of the Columbia River, one that is breathtaking by daylight, then complimented by the nighttime tree lite grounds of the Columbia Gorge Hotel to the full view of the right side of the dining room, this is the place for a memorable romantic stay, units # 5 & 6, 3 bedroom (or reserve just the Master) Penthouse Suites facing the River. We prefer Unit 6, not only for the top floor, decor and furnings, but the fact that the chance if hearing the Unit above or next door would be more limited.
The floorplan layout is everything we enjoy, open, large gourmet kitchen facing the river and overlooking a large dining room, adjacent to a large great room, amazing Master bedroom and Master bath, with great views from both, large and luxurious. We love the details in the Villa's understated elegance, rich woods, quality finishs and interior elements. Between the view, the meal (private Catering from Celilo including the amazing Chef, Ben Stenn), the special occasion for our stay, we highly recommend this place, and the people managing it. If a view is really important to you just know that you wont get it from every room, and you should be specific, and know what you want and what you're getting. Views certainly vary per room. We found the beds to be very comfortable in our rooms, and we tend to be particular about the quality of beds. They are in the processing of adding another building which will be a nice view as well, second to the building we stayed in, but it will also block the view for the building behind it.
Hood River itself its a fun little town, we highly recommend Celilo and Brian's Pourhouse for food. We also enjoyed a full day at the spa at FLOW. I don't know the pricing off hand of the other rooms and town houses, but if your going to HR to hang out and enjoy the great food, beer, wine and recreation, and you're not that concerned about the view, and you're splitting a Townhouse between 2-3 bills you're probably still getting about the best stay in town at CCV, anyway you slice it IMO far better than the Columbia Gorge Hotel, or at the very least the top of the list. I can't see how you'd be disappointed, we'll be back for our Anniversary and a possible trip in between.
Also read in Oregon 1859 Magazine that they were rated in the top 10 most romantic places to stay for Valentines, only one noted for Hood River, and Celilo was rated the place to dine while staying there!
