I stay once or twice a year at the Pioneer Villa, usually for family reunions in Brownsville, but most recently for a University of Oregon football game in Eugene, 20 miles south. The Villa adjoins a truck stop just off the freeway. It's part of the Travelodge chain, and in quality fits somewhere between Motel 6 and the Red Lion. It's not deluxe, but it's perfectly fine for the average highway traveler needing a place to rest. If you're content at Shilo or Phoenix Inns, you should like the Pioneer Villa.
The Villa's rooms are on the ground floor and easy to access. They sit amid a spacious parking lot. The rooms are clean, have decent queen-size beds, and sport basic amenities such as TV, coffee maker, and mini-fridge. A small swimming pool and hot tub are open seasonally.
The Villa's premier attraction is its restaurant, which offers darn good comfort food at reasonable prices. The room tab includes hot breakfast, or you can order off the menu. The omelettes are superb. The bacon just might be the best in the Western World. The biscuits (with sausage gravy) are delish. Lunch and dinner are likewise excellent, assuming you like meatloaf, chicken, good soup and salads, a variety of "homemade" pies -- that kind of fare. :) The waitresses serve with a smile. A cozy bar adjoins, if that's your thing.
A night at the Villa will set you back about $75 (AAA rate) as of this writing. This includes a hearty breakfast. What's not to like?
