“Beautiful and peaceful retreat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

This is my first stay at Salishan. We drive by it all the time. The facility is on a hill overlooking the bay South of Lincoln City. It's in a heavily wooded area with some old growth timber still standing on the property. I was a little disappointed we could not see the ocean from our room but it certainly wasn't a deal breaker. Our room was very nice and clean. It had a desk and fireplace with a small balcony looking toward the bay with a nice view. The bed was comfortable. The room had a newer flat screen tv, small kitchen area with microwave, coffee maker and sink all next to the bathroom. My only complaint would be the small size of the bathroom and the fact the fan did not work well. Sometimes (especially when traveling) you need the fan to work well if you catch my drift...
We had some apps in the lounge and enjoyed the lounge very much. The gentleman working behind the bar was very friendly and eager to please. The apps we got were tasty and were a good value.
We did visit the pool briefly and it was nice. The hot tub jets were so loud however I couldn't stand to sit in there more than a few minutes before it drove me out. They also had nice sauna's in each dressing room (not co-ed). the pool was nice and clean but a little too warm for me. I like to swim some laps and it's a bit too warm for that but great to play around in. We had breakfast the next morning in the Sunrise (I think) Room. The food was good and service was fairly good - not great.
Overall, I'm not sure I'll go back only because we like to be able to look at the ocean when we go to the beach. But that's the only reason. I can see where it would be a great place to go for a golf outing (the course looked great but I was not able to play it) or a conference or some thing like that. It's a nice resort and it had a nice rustic charm to it. I just like to walk on the beach and hear the ocean at night.

Room Tip: Make sure you don't get a room right next to the highway. They had two buildings (at least) rig...

“Noticeably good service, many updates but still a rustic vibe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

My husband and I stayed one night for a special occasion after treating ourselves to massages at the Salishan spa (ranked #12 nationally by CondeNast). The indoor pool was better than most (15-20m long? and with depth ranging from 3 ft to 9 ft). A large, unique hot tub is in a separate room. The fitness center had 2 tread mills, fairly modern but the one I used had an odd warble in the belt. Elipticals, bikes, and rowing also available.

The exterior of this huge facility is cedar panel which always reminds me of late 1970s construction but inside many high end updates were evident. The lobby has a great fireplace with enormous wood accents. The lounge upstairs has a nice fireplace sitting area in addition to tables and a bar. The 4 diamond restaurant served above average quality and the staff was noticeably well trained and professionally dressed ($15-50 entrees with expertise centered on steak).

Parking is in a carport in front of the room. The room was nice but makes a bad first impression by focusing you toward dated screen doors and dirty windows looking out on the golf course. On closer inspection, linens were high end, modern gas fireplace, stone bowl sink at the wet bar (microwave and fridge), travertine tile shower were quite lovely. A peaceful porch with rocking chairs overlooks the golf course.

Breakfast was served in a different restaurant off the lobby and was very high quality and priced accordingly ($8-14/main dish,$3-5 for beverage).

The area is nice with lots of beach access by car. Many restaurants to choose from though most close early in the off season. Many art galleries, glass blowing etc. within the 15 miles north and south. Then there's the SPA (need a car to get there from the lodge or be ok with a 1/2 mile to mile walk to and from).

There's an arcade and "kids corner" which we did not explore but might be a savior on a rainy day.

Compared to the other facilities in this area, this place does have better service and amenities overall. However, for me, it just can't seem to shake that dated feel. We used a groupon and were very satisfied. Don't think I would pay full price.

The desk clerks were inconsistent in pointing out amenities available. As I was checking out, one explained that there was a complimentary putting course. That would have been nice to know. Our check in clerk marked walking paths which we tried to use only to find that they were in disrepair and in places, caution tape was blocking (they had just had high winds though).

Room Tip: Allow time to use the amenities. The spa associated is pricey but book early to allow lots of time...

so, after reading all these review, I am leery about my experience this upcoming weekend. I have a premier room booked on Sunday the 12th of February. We plan to check out the Attic Lounge and possibly the steakhouse. I am still waiting on a callback from the spa as to check prices on a couples massage(very much what we need) I am writing this review ahead of time as I see the hotel management DOES care what their guests think, which is refreshing. Hopefully the staff will have us in an already renovated room with a working toilet and shower. BIG DEAL for us.So please staff of the Salishan..... keep this review at 5 stars when i update it tuesday.....

Hi Melyssa,

We are happy that you are returning, and we always give our guest 100% effort I know it easy to be leery from some of our reviews, but please don't forget that we see roughly 40,000 people a year so you are seeing a very fractional percentage of reviews. If you have any worries please feel free to contact me directly prior to Friday, and I will be more than happy to assist you in any way possible. If it is after Friday please contact our Front Office Manager and he will do the same.

Regards,
Salishan Management

“Unsure if I'll be back”

I tried a LivingSocial deal online for the Salishan for a weekend getaway to surprise & de-stress my husband from the overwheling work week he had. The last time I stayed there was when it was a Westin and had their heavenly beds but that was years ago.
The deal was for a Premiere room . We walked inside and was amazed at the nice large size. The bathroom was inviting as well as the living room. But then we noticed a few problems. The toilet wouldn't flush right, the shower would not drain so I was standing in a foot of water and the flow from the shower head is just too light. The tv was old! Not like the kind I saw in brochures with a flat screen. While watching the screen there was wiggly lines going up the television, poor quality. But for me the most frustrating was the bed. I guess I was still remembering the Heavenly Bed. Well it wasnt; heavenly when both my husand s back and mine wew aching the next morning. Stiff and sore we woke up .
I'm not sure to stay here again. I would if the price was right., maybe. But I hope there are better rooms that have working toilets, sinks and a better bed

Good Evening,

We apologize for the issues that you experienced, and appreciate as well as value your feedback. As far as the televisions go, we couldn't agree more and are in the process of acquiring new flat screen televisions for our Deluxe and Premier rooms. I would love the opportunity to speak with you about your stay because we most certainly would love to address the issues, that you experienced as well as have you back to experience what we truly strive for on a day to day basis.

Regards,
The Team at Salishan

“The Best Place to spend Time on the Oregon Coast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I want to thank the Staff @ Salishan Lodge for taking care of my wife and I the staff was amazing the rooms where clean we had a fireplace and deck to enjoy. They have one of the best wine list and prices for wine. The Attic bar upstairs from the lodge is a great place to listen to Music and have a drink. I want to that the staff once again for so many memories.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great but the Premier rooms for the money are the best
