I stayed at Oxford Suites in Gladstone while I was on a two month business/pleasure trip in Oregon in 2011 and I have to say, it was a very comfortable stay.
Where should I start? Well to begin with the staff are very approachable and friendly and make you feel right at home and this isn't limited to just the day staff but the night staff too! This was particularly important for me coming all the way from London. Also, if you have a problem they act promptly and cater to your needs in a very professional manner.
I found it handy to have an in-house laundry service and to have my room cleaned without fail, everyday. There was a splendid breakfast provided every morning and there were nibbles provided every evening and what impressed me most of all was that they rarely ever repeated the same evening menu in any one week. I noticed in one review that it was mentioned the nibbles should not be considered a substitute for your dinner but I would say the opposite...and I'm an absolute foodie! If ever you do feel that little bit more peckish there are always restaurants nearby and the hotel has a policy (the last time I checked) whereby they will drive you to anywhere that is within a 5mile radius of the hotel (and pick you up). And lets not forget the swimming pool and gym area for those who feel guilty about having the large size portions of food!
Oh and before I forget...For those who love sitting outdoors there is the beautiful Clackamas River that runs just outside the hotel. My room was facing the river so I had a gorgeous view and having the sound of the river flowing by was somewhat calming, I loved it! There is a place called High Rocks just by the hotel, where you can go and sit and gaze at the river but you have to be careful of your step and be careful not to slip when finding a spot..there are life guards there to help out, should anything go wrong! (But nothing should go wrong if you have a bit of common sense!)
My time in Oregon was absolutely amazing!! I felt very spoilt with the service and the surroundings and by the time I left, I was making good friends with the staff...I remember Trevor (desk) and Linda (restaurant), in particular! If there was one negative thing to say about the hotel it would be that there were no kitchenettes available and seeing as I like to cook this was a little bit of downer for me. But I know that just before the end of my stay Oxford Suites had announced the availability of kitchenettes at the Gladstone branch so I guess, in a way, I have no quibbles about this place! I absolutely enjoyed myself!
Thanks to all the staff who made this experience that much more special for me!! : )
Room Tip: Choose a room that faces the river...wonderful views and calming too!
