“Wonderful holiday retreat”

I stayed at the valley river inn with my wife and two daughters over Christmas and the hotel was simply magical! My girls loved the fireplace and the other seasonal decorations in the lobby, our room was spacious and well-appointed, and the views of the Willamette River were stunning. One morning, my six year old woke up early and the two of us spent half an hour watching ducks and waterbirds from our hotel window. In addition to the view, the great location gave us access to the Willamette river running trail. My wife and I both went for runs (loops of various lengths available depending on where you cross the river) and our family went for a lovely walk the day after Christmas. The staff was gracious and accommodating, even emptying out reams of of printer paper so we could use the box to ship some gifts home. I have relatives in Eugene and I look forward to returning so we can enjoy this charming hotel again.

Room Tip: River views are breathtaking!

“Valley River Inn / Eugene Sportsman Show”

My husband and I stayed at Valley River Inn while we worked at the Eugene Sportsman Show. we were greeted by front desk staff Megan, she was a gem!! She always greeted us with a smile and gave us a great restaurant recomend. On our first night we returned from dinner and wanted a fresh cup of decaf coffee in our room she gave us decaf coffee packs along with LOTS of sugar and creamer packs, just like we like it!! She made our visit very pleasant and we wanted to say Thank You to Megan and other hotel staff, this is an excellent hotel to stay at and we will recommend it to our friends and family who visit Eugene. Keep up the good work Valley River Inn, thank you!!

Room Tip: the concierge suite is on the 3rd floor

“little overpriced”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Checked in after dark but was aware of a dicey neighborhood, close to a strip shopping center. Front desk staff not very friendly. This motel is huge but fairly quiet. I had gps or never would have found it. Room comfortable, but not worth the price.

we had a great time at the hotel and don't think its a bad place, just not exceptional in any way. We had a small suite with a balcony overlooking the river and greenspace so the view was great. The bed was comfortable and things were clean but a bit dated. we knew that they were going through a total update of the property in early 2012 to prepare for the Olympic trials and we're sure it will look great. Being right next to the shopping mall (also very dated) is a plus for some folks but no us; it seemed to detract from the resort feel they were trying to create. The restaurant was a bit pricey for what you get and hopefully is on the refurb list, too. the meeting spaces were plentiful but rather disjointed for big events. the staff was incredible friendly and the concierge suite was a nice touch but lacked pizazz. Probably would stay someplace else next time, like the Hilton or someplace with more local character.

Room Tip: get on the river side for great views and quietness.

“Not so good after all...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

We went back to this hotel after having a good stay there the first time. This time we upgraded the room, so the room(s) were very large. It had a hall, a tv room with a couch, chairs and a table, a balcony, a bathroom and a bedroom. A lot of space.
Unfortunately the bathroom was very dirty. It looked like someone had an accident on the wall... I find it weird that the housekeeping had not cleaned it.
It was also very noisy there. It felt like our upstairs neighbour was in our room. It was so loud. It was really annoying.
When we checked out the day after, I told the front desk about the noise. He told me they could have done something if we had called the the night before. I just wonder what they would have done.. Called the room and told them not to walk in their room..? Well, we will not stay in that hotel again. We will find a different one for sure.

We appreciate your time in providing insight to your recent stay with us. As you stated, our rooms are extremely large by hotel standards. I was very disappointed to read about the condition of your bathroom. We pride ourselves on having a clean product to provide to our guests. I have met with the Director of Housekeeping to ensure that we are following the correct standards and proper room inspections are completed. This is a very unusal circumstance and your feedback has been invaluable for continuous improvement. Secondly, if a guest has a complaiint about noise, we absolutely investigate it and find a way so that all of our guests have a comfortable stay.

We will be going through a multi-million dollar renovation that begins shortley and is scheduled to be completed by the end of May. Hopefully you will give us another chance when you come to Eugene again.
