“Nice place. Find solitude here”

We have stayed here and at the nearby Frenchglen Hote. We prefer the Frenchglen by a very small margin but this place is wonderful, too.

Diamond Oregon is in the middle of nowhere, near the Maheur Wildlife Refuge and Steen Mountains. It is a lovely place. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Dinner was very good, and the complimentary continental breakfast was one of the nicest I've had for a long time.

Owner/managers are very friendly and helpful.

We look forward to going again someday.

“Charming Old West”

I have just returned from a tour of SE Oregon, and spent a night at the Hotel Diamond, in tiny Diamond Oregon (population 5). The Hotel Diamond is the "prettier sister" to the Frenchglen Hotel , where I stayed the previous night--sisters in that they hail from the same era, and that they are the only accomodations for miles and miles. I also very much liked the Frenchglen Hotel, but that's not the point here, is it? The management at the Hotel Diamond have created a lodging that both evokes an earlier place in time, but also provides modern comfort. My room was tiny, with pretty wallpaper and checked sheets, and airconditioning (thank goodness!). My room shared a bath (some have private) which was right across the hall. The setting is tranquil, in a large, green meadow surrounded by desert buttes. "Deluxe" continental breakfast is included (Lots of good homemade baked goods), but dinner is extra. I chose to eat dinner in "Frazier's Pub" around back,(rather than the hotel dining room) and had a very good burger and saw my first television in days. It seems wise to check if the pub is open in advance--it seems like it might vary by demand. All in all, it's a charming hotel, and a great respite from desert travel.

“Fantastic! You'll love it”

This is an awesome place to stay if you love rural getaways. Cute little rooms, some have shared bathroom (FYI), that are comfortable and homey. The food served in the dining room is wonderful. I've stayed here several times now and love it. Great birding in the Malheur area nearby and all sorts of adventures to go on. Ask the owners for anything and chances are, they'll deliver. Nights are very, very quiet. Population of Diamond is 5, yes 5 people, I'm not kidding. It's remote but sometimes that's just what you want.

“Escape to the Past”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2003

This restored old hotel brings you back in time and lets you escape from reality during your visit. The hosts treat you like royalty and assist you in every need. The family style dinners this hotel serves is the best food I have had anywhere. The screened off front porch is inviting in the evenings to enjoy the desert scenery and the sunset before retiring to your well-appointed spacious room , but no TV, this would spoil the mood and atmosphere. I can't wait to come back again.
