Red Lion Hotel in Coos Bay, Oregon provided excellent service to our family. First, they honored a discount that had been written in error, and when I showed up with my family they had upgraded us to a suite room for the same price and provided us with free breakfast coupons for each morning. On top of all that, we were given a coupon book for other businesses in the area. The housecleaning staff was prompt and polite. The rooms and bathroom were clean, rooms, nice and quiet. Within walking distance of downtown. Will definitely stay there again!

First off I'd say we have stayed at other Red Lions and have been quite pleased. The one in Coos Bay is definitely not one of them. To begin we had reserved a handicap room. After we had checked in and gone to our room we discovered it did not have the handicap shower we had requested. Their reply was simply "that room is taken and we'd have to make do". They gave me a small plastic shower chair to use.
The room had old, very smelly carpet. The air conditioner did not work. The upholstered chair in the room was too dirty to even sit on. There was only one handicapped parking spot on the row of rooms in which we stayed. There was usually a non-handicap car parked in it.
I wrote to the company to let them know how unhappy we were. Their response was to offer me 3000 points toward their reward program. It takes 5,000 just to receive a $10 Costco gift card.
I feel the staff at the hotel did the best job they could considering the condition of the facility. I certainly have no complaints about them.
There is no way we will stay at this hotel again. Due to the attitude at the corporate level, we will probably avoid Red Lions from now on.

I liked this place. Very inexpensive breakfast buffet. Less than 5 per person and good. Standard motel setting and quiet. Good place to rest after a long drive.

Spacious, clean room on the second floor, microwave and fridge in room.
Safeway, Fred Meyer and Walgreens are just a few minutes drive away.
Short walk into town is along the side of the highway. It might not be a good idea to walk this at night as the road is busy and there is no sidewalk on one side and the other side is only a narrow makeshift sort of sidewalk. That said, once in town, there are plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants to browse and the boardwalk across from the Best Western offers interesting boards and photographs detailing the local history.
Pool looked clean and well kept though I didn’t use it and the free Wi-Fi has a fast and good connection in the room.
