“Nice stay in suburban Portland”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

We stayed 1 nite in September 2011.
Room was large and comfortable. The hotel is slightly aged and the room as well reflected that.
But that does not mean it was not clean or bedding comfortable. It was. It just is not ultra-modern. TV had full expanded cable and got good reception, Bathroom was in good repair and adequately stocked.

We had dinner and breakfast in on site restaurant. Good basic meals at reasonable prices.

Convenient location, if you want to stay on the east side of metro Portland, in Clackamas Town Center, right next to the Freeway exit.
Overall pleased!

“Great Location!”

Great location to the Clackamas Shopping Center! Very friendly staff. I was originally going to be in a King Suite but there was a musty smell in the room and I could easily hear traffic from 205. I asked to be moved (very friendly service) and the traffic issue was resolved. The only negative thing (which will have me trying other facilities in the area) is a musty smell in the hallways. There was a slight smell in the room but the heater and open window resolved it. The hotel is VERY CLEAN; it's like an old building/old cigarette kind of smell. I don't want to give a poor rating to the hotel due to a great location, a good deal, and fantastic staff!

“Convenient location. Very nice room.”

My business travel often takes me to the monarch's neighboring hotel that's part of a major chain; however, when the reservation was somehow confused and only a smoking room remained (think 30 chain smokers dragging all night in a sealed room), I took a risk and tried the seemingly non-corporate chain hotel. To sum it up, I was very pleased with the decision.

Location is as convenient or better than the nearby Marriott since within walking distance to the clackamas shopping center. It's also far better of a location than the Hampton Inn which is squeezed between highways and has nothing within walking distance except for Denny's and McD's.

There is some sort of standard hotel bar+restaurant and peculiar giftshop neither of which I visited. Good hotel. Good location. Good value within the Clackamas vacinity.

“Relaxing.”

I just had the pleasure of spending two nights in this hotel. The room was clean, the whirlpool tub devine and staff very friendly. The Sams resturant delivered the most wonderful tasting food ever! I was very pleased with the quiet atmosphere. Althought priced a little high, I would most definitely stay again. Only one suggestion would be to remove the outdated carpeting in the main enterance and downstairs area. It tends to give off a damp ordor. Besides that I have nothiing but good things to say about this hotel and management.

We have found the Monarch to be convenient, very easy to reach off I-205. This was our third visit and we have always been pleased. The rooms are large and the decor gives one a feeling of elegance. This visit, the hotel was hosting a womens conference and the parking lot was full. When we mentioned that we had to park in the rear of the building the front desk hastily volunteered to move our room to a location that was more easily reached from our car. If you're lucky enough to get a room above the pool, open the window and the water feature beside the pool will sound like a gentle rain falling. The rooms have always been clean and well stocked. This hotel is an excellent value. My only complaint is the dim lighting over the sink making makeup application a challenge. While we did not eat in the restaurant on this trip, we have eaten breakfast there in the past and were pleased.

Room Tip: If you sleep with an open window you might want to make sure you're on the side away from the fr...
