“Pourly Equipped for Cooking”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

We booked three nights and had planned on cooking at least two meals a day. The unit is advertised as "fully equipped kitchenettes", which was far from the truth! The main appliances worked fine but there was very little cookware or utensils for cooking anything. It was impossible to cook even pasta because of only having a small sauce pan and no way to strain it. There was NO cheese grater, measuring devices, serving bowl, peeler, or most anything else you may need to cook anything. Apparently, no visitors are allowed due to there only being two eating utensils: two forks, two spoons, and two knives, with no large preparing spoon or fork. Within one hour of checking in at the Cannon Beach Hotel lobby, which is where you must go for the Hearthstone Inn property, I requested a pasta pot and a large spoon. The receptionist went to the now de-funked restaurant within the hotel and found a very large pot, which would not even standup on the stove burner because of being so out of shape, and a bent-up spoon. She said she would leave a note for the day person to act on our cookware needs. Needless to say, when we returned the next afternoon to the hotel lobby, no real attempt was made to supply us with cooking essentials as requested the day before. We spoke with the general manager who was NOT the least bit apologetic but did finally offer to buy or scrounge up what we needed. (We heard from some of the Cannon Beach store owners that the manager is one of the least liked people in town). She definitely has no clue about customer service! We asked for a refund for the last two nights so we could stay elsewhere but she would only refund for the final night. Anywho, by the second evening we finally had what we needed to cook pasta but left the next day to stay at Sea Breeze Court which was wonderfully equipped to cook meals. My advise is to stay away from any of the Cannon Beach Hotel properties: (Hearthstone Inn, McBee Cottages, ......) and Highly recommend Sea Breeze Court.

Room Tip: Stay @ Sea Breeze Court

“very nice- pet friendly”

This was our second stay here. The 1st time we stayed in a "Grand" room which has a little more room and a couch. This time we stayed in a "Classic" which was more private and a better value all things considered. The management will email special offers to you during the year once you stay there and again are a good deal. Dog friendly and clean. Take note if you plan to cook, there are exactly enough dishes for two. But it's a good little kitchen set up.

“No return”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2011

My husband and I were celebrating our 3rd Anniversary and in advance had the staff of this place arrange flowers, chocolates, and wine prior to our arrival. Well there was no flowers, chocolates, and wine and boy was I peeved. I understand people are going to make mistakes, but they understood what I wanted done prior to our arrival therefore I expected it. It was a HUGE disappointment. I called them to let them know and they gave us a voucher for $100 for either of their ocean properties to stay at which expires in the worst time of the year....May (it rains at the beach at this time) so I don't think so. I appreciated their apology and willingness to help make up for their mistake, but it was our Anniversary and that only happens 1x a year. Rustic is right! It was a OK cabin #27 and it smelled and felt like a old cabin that had barely any lighting. There was humidity in ours and when you stepped outside it was so refreshing to breathe in the clean non humid air. The mattress kept shifting and we would wind up with it sloping off to one side, so we had to push it inward every night. My husband thought the mattress was very uncomfortable. Overall I would give it a 1.5 with 5 being fantastic! I don't think at all it's worth $165 a night in the summer time. For another $75 a night we could have stayed at our fav The Ocean Lodge and had a 5 star service. We had stayed at the Ocean Lodge a few times before and wanted to try something different this time. Once you have stayed at a place that you have no complains over it's hard to venture off to try something new. We won't be back to the Hearthstone nor will we use the voucher they gave. I am not interested in trying any of their properties when the best is where we have stayed before. Don't have to worry at the Ocean Lodge.

“Our New Favorite Place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2011

We stayed at Hearthstone and loved it. Real wood burning fireplace with beautiful hardwood floor. We loved the rustic feel. So comfy and cozy. Friendly front desk staff - they were super helpful when we asked for an extra blanket. Really clean. We will be back!
