Very nice and $reasonable getaway outside of Burns near outdoor activities such as Malheur Bird Refuge, Steens Mountain Loop. Got up early to soak in the 102 degree outdoor pool (included in price of lodging) and watch the beautiful sunrise while the coyotes howled in the distance.
Sparse lodging (4 cabinettes - room w/a bed) but clean and warm (heated w/hot spring water radiators!). One addt'l cabinette set apart from the other 4 has a 1/2 bath, costs a little more, no dogs allowed in that one, but beats using common baths. Mattresses have been replaced since our last stay, much more comfortable. Linens and big thirsty towels are primo and much nicer than my home stock!
Camp kitchen can be used by RVs, tenters, etc and has full fridge if you want to unload your cooler, full sized stove and a selection of utensils. There is also a 'Commons' large room with used books, board games, comfy seating. (Wi Fi and big screen TV also - no TVs in the rooms)
In addition to the outdoor pool, private soaking tubs can be rented by the hour, they are in enclosed rooms in the main bathhouse. Day use/weekend party soakers can get a little rambunctious, if peace and quiet is what you're looking for, but it ends early and weekdays are generally quiet, with most visitors out on a day trip to Round Barn or other area attraction.
Another nice detail is the underground heating that keeps the sidewalks from cabins to bathhouse/main office clear from snow in the winter. It is always warm here, no matter how cold it is!
My husband discovered this place years ago on the way back from a hunting trip (good place for hot showers and a soak after a week in the woods) and we have been going nearly every year since. The owners are back managing the place and it looks great.
