“relaxing, rustic w/unexpected touches”

Very nice and $reasonable getaway outside of Burns near outdoor activities such as Malheur Bird Refuge, Steens Mountain Loop. Got up early to soak in the 102 degree outdoor pool (included in price of lodging) and watch the beautiful sunrise while the coyotes howled in the distance.

Sparse lodging (4 cabinettes - room w/a bed) but clean and warm (heated w/hot spring water radiators!). One addt'l cabinette set apart from the other 4 has a 1/2 bath, costs a little more, no dogs allowed in that one, but beats using common baths. Mattresses have been replaced since our last stay, much more comfortable. Linens and big thirsty towels are primo and much nicer than my home stock!

Camp kitchen can be used by RVs, tenters, etc and has full fridge if you want to unload your cooler, full sized stove and a selection of utensils. There is also a 'Commons' large room with used books, board games, comfy seating. (Wi Fi and big screen TV also - no TVs in the rooms)

In addition to the outdoor pool, private soaking tubs can be rented by the hour, they are in enclosed rooms in the main bathhouse. Day use/weekend party soakers can get a little rambunctious, if peace and quiet is what you're looking for, but it ends early and weekdays are generally quiet, with most visitors out on a day trip to Round Barn or other area attraction.

Another nice detail is the underground heating that keeps the sidewalks from cabins to bathhouse/main office clear from snow in the winter. It is always warm here, no matter how cold it is!

My husband discovered this place years ago on the way back from a hunting trip (good place for hot showers and a soak after a week in the woods) and we have been going nearly every year since. The owners are back managing the place and it looks great.

Room Tip: Cabin D is on the end - less foot traffic unless there are tent campers. Bunk house with bathroom re...

“Hot springs A/A+; cabins C/C-”

If you are coming here, it is for the hot springs. Crystal Crane is about 25 miles from Burns and store and restaurants. The tiny town of Crane is about 2 miles and there is one pump gas and a diner. The 5 cabins are small, and pretty run down. The chair in ours was so dirty and torn I used it to hold a suitcase. The linens, however, were crisp and clean. Toilets and showers are available in the bathhouse. If you want more privacy, you can rent private tubs in the bathhouse. Be prepared with your own food and drink -- there is a communal camp kitchen with stove and refrigerator. There is also a communal lounge with TV and computer/internet access. Although I wasn't thrilled with the cabins, I think if you had an RV you'd be happy here. There is some tent camping as well. The hot spring pond is easy to use, and about 7 feet at its deepest. It's about 105 degrees. We were lucky enough to be at Crystal Crane on a full moon ... and I think I will never forget floating in that perfect water, in the late summer high desert, under the brillance of moonlight. Ahhh....

“Wonderful campground”

We stopped at Crystal Crane Hot Springs for 1 night on our road trip from the Oregon Coast to Yellowstone. This place is absolutely wonderful. The owner/manager was very friendly and helpful.

The campground is very clean. The tent sites are grassy and rather spacious. The highlights of course are the hot springs. Our visit was late summer when nights get chilly and being in the hot springs was simply amazing. The main building has a kitchen that campers can use to boil water, make coffee and such.

We very much enjoyed the quietness and peacefulness of the place and cannot wait be back.

“Friendly Oasis”

Spent one night while trekking back home across Oregon. We were in a little camper. Be aware that the RV sites have the least view, are just in a parking lot, but knowing that ahead of time by looking at pictures online prepared us. The tent sites have beautiful views from a field. The hot springs were wonderful. Staff very friendly and helpful. Bathrooms and showers clean and warm, felt like a luxury after camping with outhouses. It was pretty busy when we were there, but once you're in the outdoor pool you forget anyone else is around. Worth the trek and we'd go out of our way to stay any time we get out towards Burns.

“A refuge in a storm”

A friend a I were in the area for a bit of birding. We called ahead on the day of our arrival and we were able to secure a cabin with two beds. We had to use the shower and toilets in the bath house. The cabin was very small and could have used a table and chairs and something for hanging up clothes and towels. There is a small community kitchen and a nice "commons" area for guests. Met some nice fellow travelers. The rooms and bathhouse were very clean. The hotspring was huge and delightfully warm after being out in the rain and snow all day. They offer reduced prices for soaking a few nights during the week so some of the locals visit. They were a great source of information and conversation. The RV area was not much more than a parking lot, but the hot spring is what it is all about. I am already planning a trip back with some of my older friends who could really get a boost from the hotspring.
