“When good resorts go bad...”

My family and I stayed at Seventh Mountain resort in the 90's and it was a wonderful experience. Everyone was friendly and the whole atmosphere was wonderful. Over the holidays we decided to stay there again and were really looking forward to seeing how things have improved over the years.
Here is the summary of my experience:

-Reservation: In order to get the 3rd night free, you have to call the reservation line, however no one on the phone is empowered to offer this. They take your name and number and say they will call you back, which they never do. Eventually someone recommended booking the room for all three nights and sorting it out at the reception, which I did.

-Check In: Easy enough, once again though, no one was empowered to honor their website special.

-The Room: First, the key didn't work to get in the room, it was fixed within 30 minutes, but we had to wait in the cold. Second, What they call a one bedroom condo is really just two boring and drab, adjoining hotel rooms.

-Problem: When we woke up the first morning one of the pipes in the ceiling burst and water was leaking all over the room, reception moved us to another room,

-Services: Before booking they assured us there were multiple eating facilities at the resort with a full menu. The restaurant was closed during construction, the bar was closed during the day, and the cafe was dreadful. The service at the cafe and bar made us feel like we were an inconvenience to them. Needless to say, if we wanted to eat we needed to head into town or cook it ourselves. The prices were high, however the food was decent. Ice skating was fun but a little over priced. Swimming pools were fun. Rented a movie from the front desk, it was scratched and didn't work. Wifi worked in our room.

Check out: When it came time to finally settle the third night free advertisement, once again the people at the front desk were not empowered to do anything and I needed to "come back in a few hours" to get this resolved. I did as requested and came back when the manager was on duty, he was a nice guy and offered to fix the third night free issue, credit one of our dinners and send us a 20% off coupon for our next stay. I left thinking, "hey, it's Christmas and were all doing the best we can. Some things they can't control, and I'm happy they are trying".

Follow Through: Well it's been two weeks and I checked my credit card statement and they didn't credit the third night, they didn't credit the dinner and they didn't send the 20% coupon! I called up the hotel again, and once again they were not empowered to do anything. At this point I'm tired of them telling me one thing and doing another.

Summary: If you don't want to eat at the resort, and you don't want to watch movies, and you don't care if water leaks all over your stuff, you don't care if your hotel room looks like a Super 8, and you don't care if people lie to you, and if you don't care how much you pay, this is a pretty nice resort.

Room Tip: Don't pay for the one bedroom condo, its two regular hotel rooms. In one of the rooms they took...

“Great for skiing, skating and teens”

Great place to stay with semi-independent teens. Outdoor steamy swimming pools are great after a hard day of skiing and boarding. Those with energy to spare ice skated on the outdoor rink. Room was spacious and easy to have extra teens and parents visit. King bed was very cozy, sofa bed not so great, but they never are. Kitchen saved us a bundle on meals. We would love to visit again.

Room Tip: some condos not "updated" with newer fixtures, layout

“Nice Stay”

We stayed here for Winter Break and got a great deal for this closest to the hill resort. Don't expect sparkling new rooms - the condo's are a bit dated, but adequate and include kitchens and a large living area. We had a room with King and sofa sleeper. The sleeper was so uncomfortable (not unexpected) that I gave up and crammed into the single bed with wife and kid after the first night.

The resort during the winter has an ice skating rink and outdoor pool with hot tubs which was great for my son. There is also a grocery store and restaurant/bar on-site. The resort is only ten minutes to Bachelor so as close to the hill as you can get for lodgings.

“Yikes”

I will update this with more info later. Just got here. Didn't realize this is an owner managed property. I see why this gets great reviews. The deluxe condo I'm in looks like my grandmother decorated it. The food options are close to non existent. Wish I chose a place downtown. This is far from a resort.

“Not What We Bargained For. . .”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

We arrived and were directed to a sub-standard room. No real shower curtain, pillows on the couch frayed, etc. A well worn condo which had seen better days. After three hours they finally located another room for us. The second room was a little better, had nice furniture, and a
decent bed. We were comfortable but this is NOT a luxury type of setting.

The on-site restaurant and bar had a very limited menu. Kids food, sandwiches, fries, etc. Don't look for a nice dinner unless you are willing to drive in to Bend.

Very nice ice skating rink, swimming pools, and hot tub with holiday music playing. Mostly used by children.

Will not return. Might be ok for families who want access to snow activities for children and are willing to "rough it".

Room Tip: Ask for an executive condo close to restaurant, ice rink, etc.
