My husband and I stayed at McBirney for a Valentine's Day/Birthday celebration. When we arrived, there was only one staff member working and after checking us in and telling us that breakfast was at 8:30, that was were the service ended. There were no evening h'ourdouvres or wine, there was no description of any other services available. That was it. We stayed in the Bishop's Suite which is supposed to be the nicest room they have. The room was okay, however for $275 a night, you expect even the smallest details to be met. For example, we found some trash under the bed, indicating they had not cleaned under the bed....which left me wondering, what else had they not cleaned. Next in the bathroom, the picture was crooked on the wall and you could see where they had stapled some fabric on the wall as decoration. Very cheap and shoddy looking. Lastly, there was a diffuser in the bathroom but instead of having any oil or fragrance in the bottle, there was only one of those dry packets you find in your box of new shoes to keep out the moisture. However, I was willing to let all that pass with the wonderful breakfast I was expecting the next morning. In fact when I made the reservation, the woman specifically told me what a fantastic breakfast they have and that is what they are known for. But boy was I disappointed......breakfast included your choice of scrambled eggs, bacon, or french toast. Nothing else.....no fruit, no bread of any kind, not cereal, no spread of any kind. They even ran out of coffee. So much for a "bed and BREAKFAST". But the final straw.......are you ready for it.......drum roll please......they didn't even serve real OJ.....they gave us Sunny Delight. Sunny D is what I drank as a kid because my parents could not afford the real thing. So to get this crap at a $275/night bed and breakfast is what did me in. Save your money and go somewhere else because whatever charm and service the McBirney Mansion used to have is a thing of the past. Really too bad.....
