“Overrated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

This is a decent hotel that I found to be highly overrated based on the reviews I had heard prior to my arrival. One person kept telling me about the glass elevators; if you have never been to a hotel with a glass elevator the views the atrium you may be impressed but otherwise it is not that impressive. There were some aspects that were good, average, and poor, but nothing that wowed me. There are far better values in the area. If you want a full evaluation continue reading.

The Good:
- The property has a nice presence when you walk in. The lobby opens up in front of you and is inviting. They have multiple desk "pods" to the left of the entrance rather than a traditional check-in counter; this creates less of a barrier between the staff and guest which is a nice touch, but the stations look more like high top bar tables than a check-in so if there is not an employee directly behind the pod (like when I arrived) it makes it a little confusing on what it actually is.
- The room had enough room and did not feel cramped.
- Having a convention center onsite was convenient and easily accessible through a curved corridor.
- The spaces at the convention center were spacious and customizable to meet the needs for our meetings.
- Although I did not use them due to meeting schedules I did check the pool and fitness areas shortly after my arrival and they appeared to be updated and adequately supplied.
- Free WiFi service in the lobby.
- It is in a good location with multiple restaurants, some shopping, and a movie theater close by.

The Average:
- The rooms were nicely appointed but nothing special.
- Employees were friendly but did not do anything above and beyond to make the visit more enjoyable.

The Bad:
- The room was on the side next to the interstate and the walls and windows did not do much in the way of sound dampening so I was able to hear the traffic. If you are going to stay here I would strongly suggest that you request being away from the interstate side. I was on the 6th of 9 floors and that did not help at all with the sound problem.
- The bathroom was poorly cleaned and there were long hairs still attached to the shower faucet from the previous guest.
- I am a fan of a nice HOT shower. The temperature control in the shower is blocked from going too far (probably to limit liability issues) so you are able to get a solid, comfortably warm shower, but it prevents it from getting hot. If you lean towards a soothing sauna-like shower this is not the right place to stay.
- The internet service in the room costs $12.95 so if you are trying to work in your room it will cost you. The internet connection was not particularly fast and often had issues staying connected. They have some type of block apparently which prevents you from connecting to the free lobby wifi while in your room. If you don't mind the constant distractions then you can work from the lobby.
- The flatscreen tv is nice until you turn it on. The picture quality is fuzzy and looks more like a 1987 projection screen than a modern flatscreen based on the poor connection/signal.
- No refrigerator in standard rooms.
- There was a serious deficiency in outlet availability. The desk work area has 1 outlet built in to the lamp, and another outlet underneath the desk if you want to crawl around on the floor. If you have multiple devices to plug-in like laptop, phone charger, iPads, etc you will struggle. I had to move the nightstand to find outlets to serve the basic needs of a business traveler.

If you are a business traveler that needs convention room meeting space this is a great option for convenience. If you are a traveler (business or leisure) that is primarily interested in a room or value then this is not the best option in the area. I checked out after my convention ended and spent the rest of my trip to Tulsa at Embassy Suites, which is only a mile away, because they offer similar basic amenities (pool, exercise room, business center, etc) but also give you larger rooms, free add-ons (wifi, made to order breakfast, happy hour reception including munchies and alcohol), and better service from the employees and they do all this at a better price point.

One factor that I should mention is that the Embassy Suites that I switched to during my stay in Tulsa is that they are doing a renovation to the lobby area so there is construction going on during the day until April. If you are going to be in the hotel all day long then that may be a factor to take under consideration, but if you are fine with a little noise until 6pm then it is still a better option than the Renaissance in my opinion...and it also has a glass elevator in case that is what you are really looking for in a hotel.

Room Tip: If staying at the Renaissance make sure you get a room away from the interstate.

“Good hotel.”

This is a very good hotel.
My checkin was relatively non eventful and the staff was friendly. I received a quiet room - right next to the elevator. Not Quiet! There is a lot happening at this hotel so it is quiet considering it is a convention center. Ask for a room away from the interstate.
The hotel interior is setup similar to an Embassy Suites. The rooms are not suites though. But they have plenty of space to move around and are cramped at all.
The room was clean and comfy. Nice carpet, furniture, wallpaper, flat screen TV, and amenities. Places to eat in hotel and walking distance.
I like plenty of plugins to charge my computer and phones, this was great.

“Nice Business Hotel with Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

I travel to Tulsa about 6 times per year for business and almost always stay at the Renaissance. It is a nice hotel for business and also it is a great location. They have updated some of the rooms (mostly on the 9th floor for Marriott Gold and Platinum Members) but it can be hard to get on that floor even with your status. They have a nice concierge lounge and do a great job with breakfast. If you don't have an upgraded room, the decor is a bit tired but the rooms are always clean and comfortable. This is an atrium style hotel (shaped in a square) so all the rooms are facing the atrium and have no one across which is nice and keeps it quiet. The location is what I like because right in the parking lot in front of the hotel there is a Target there which is nice for picking up snacks, water and they have a Starbucks. There is also a ton of restaurants including Carraba's, Chipolte, Texas Roadhouse and more. There is a large shopping mall just 1 mile down the road as well. They also have a small but recently updated fitness center. And the price is very reasonable.

Room Tip: Ask to be away from the elevators--they are noisy.

“A hotel that knows 'service' means 'people'”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

I travel for a living so I have plenty of experience of hotels where people know how to 'do' service: They know what to say when I have a request. . . they know what to say when I have a complaint. They will get me a cab. Often I'll notice one of them who seems to be really enjoying their work and their contact with me and other people. What stands out for me about the three days I stayed at the Renaissance Tulsa is that most, if not all of the people I dealt with, from front desk to night bellman; from conference planner to the people who set up the room; from audio/visual to restaurant wait staff: Were all seeming to enjoy the opportunity to be of service, I concluded that they weren't just 'doing' service, but that they were actually 'being' service. Since it wasn't just an occasional encounter, I believe that the staff and management at this particular hotel have actually created a 'culture of service'.

Yes the rooms are clean. Yes the beds comfortable. Yes the tv has a lot of channels. . . these sort of descriptors could be many hundreds or thousands of hospitality properties in the world. BUT, to stay at a place where people are actually 'being service', where they seem, as an entire staff, to create satisfaction for themselves by creating satisfaction for their guests, now that is what I mean when I say 'great hotel'.

“Nice”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

We stayed one night at this hotel in mid-November of this year. We booked it on Priceline for a very good price....but I would not pay full price for this place. It is very clean, neat, etc but I think it is over priced (if you pay regular price). It is very close to lots of shopping. The beds are extremely comfortable and the bathrooms are very large. No mini fridges in rooms. Good value if you don't pay full price:)
