We went to Pawhuska this spring to view the prairie chickens "dance" or boom for spring mating and photography them, which is always a lot of fun, and stayed at Woodyard Farms run by two sisters. It is modeled on a farmhouse idea on the prairie and filled with old-timey relics, but modern conveniences, and the killer breakfast in the morning. Carol Maudin, who runs the B & B is a fabulous cook and was very accommodating about our early-morning bird watching and prepared her wonderful breakfast layouts late morning. The B & B is just north of Pawhuska on Lynn Avenue, not US 99 had has the three stone columns out front. Her sister runs some longhorn cattle on adjacent land and with the chickens and rooster, you really do feel like you're on a country farm (in case the elegant country breakfast didn't convince you).
If you're travelings to the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve or to Mozart OK, this is top on your list of places to stay.
