We spent four nights at the Embassy Suites in Norman. It is usually priced significantly more than the Hilton Garden Inn, but the prices were so close this trip that we opted for the Embassy Suites.
They must train their employees and evaluate based on friendliness. The staff always spoke with us when given an opportunity. They really made us feel welcome at their hotel. The suite is really nice with its two room configuration with a wet bar, giving an additional sink that is outside the bathroom. It was almost clean. We we checked in, there was one of those paper lids they put on the glasses under the bathroom vanity. It was still there when we checked out. The manager should check room 817 and see if it is still there.
The managers reception was a nice touch, but there is only one white wine, chardonnay. (Or "white" zin, but that is not really a white wine.) And the food is carrots, celery, cheese and crackers and once chips with dip. Not exciting but adequate. The addition of one hot appetizer would have been nice.
Breakfast on three of the four days was really outstanding! The made to order omelets, fresh fruit, bacon, sausage, and potatoes was a spectacular was to start the day. But the first day we did not go to breakfast until 9 AM. There was a huge long line for the omelets with only one chef cooking them. There were no breakfast meats on the buffet. The fruit was scarce and what was there was soggy. There were only a couple of tablespoons of scrambled eggs, but lots of gravy to go on the 6 biscuits on the buffet. There were 4 pastries in the cabinet (not 4 kinds, 4 cold rolls). There was only skim milk in the mild frig. Luckily, I scraped the bottom of the barrel and got enough oatmeal to make a meal and left the eggs for my husband. Then there were no tables. Every table was full. Way too many people, very few employees, and very little food. We watched the omelet line. When we left after 30 minutes, the woman we were in line behind briefly had still not reached the front of the line. After that we scampered down to breakfast every day at 7 AM. It was another world: we were kindly greeted; there was no line for omelets; there were breakfast meats on the buffet; the fruit was fresh and plentiful. There was plenty of seating. Staff would take our trays and our beverages to a table and set them up. Plates were cleared as we finished them. A very different experience. SO either the staff all called in sick on 12/27 or one needs to eat eary before the breakfast is gone.
Housekeeping service was excellent until the last day. Then were were shorted two towels and left with no Kleenex. The hair conditioner and lotion were replaced, but no shampoo. And the coffee supplies we had used were not replaced, even the cups! A bad day for that housekeeper apparently.
Overall, we had a pleasant stay at the Embassy Suites. Like others I find that the extra charge for WIFI in the room is irritating, but the extravagent breakfast makes up for it. I also used the gym each day and found it generally pleasant. By the 3rd day, I learned how to turn down the obnoxious music that is blaring so loud it can still be heard over the Cardio Theater TV on the cardio machines (and that is with earphones in), THe other irritant in the gym is the baskets with a sign that says "New Earphones". There are two of them. They were empty each of the four days I was there. I don't expect the gym to provide earphones; and they don't. So ditch the baskets!
I know this review sounds critical, but the EMbassy Suites comes so close to being so good. I would love to see it become all it could be. We would readily stay here again with no reservations. Just eat breakfast early!
