I did not technically stay here, but having been charged for a room, although it remained empty, I beleive I am technically a customer, if only in spirit. I was moving from Kansas to Texas and made a reservation for about half way in between that was cheap and hopefully clean,so we could rest with our baby at night. We got lost and called the hotel ([--], not even the 800 number) about 30 miles after our missed exit. We asked for either directions back, a credit to another super 8 farther down the road, a credit for a later time or just a regular refund. The front desk person was not helpful at all. He could not/ would not give us directions back to the hotel and said he cannot give a credit to another location, but offered the solution of a refund. We said, great and just got a hotel in the town we had stopped to call them from... no problem, right. Wrong. When we got home and got the internet set up, we called the super 8 because there was no refund and the manager told us to call the internet booking agent we'd used because THEY had the money. Cheap tickets- the site we used- said they CAN refund the money IF the hotel gives them the ok, but that the hotel did not want to give us the money back. We called back again, and VJ, the manager and same person we had spoken to in the morning, changed his story, saying that since we had cancelled on the same day it was non-refundable... ok, BUT when we called we were not told that. Also, we made the reservation before leaving our old home, hours before we left Kansas...so even if we had wanted to cancel IMMEDIATELY after making the reservation, we'd not have gotten our refund/credit…. If we'd known we would be charged a hundred bucks without actually getting anything, we would have turned around and driven the 30 miles back to the missed exit. But on Halloween night- with drunken drivers coming out more as it gets later... and a screaming, tired baby in the back seat we foolishly believed the answer given us to a simple question...can we get our money back? So, in the end, we got no refund and no credit- having asked for either- and when I asked the manager straight “ so, there is no solution, you just lie to me so that you have another free room and keep my money” and he said “ well, that’s our policy”…probably did not mean for it to come out that way, but he pretty much said stealing is a company policy. The definition of STEAL is “to seize, gain, or win by trickery” which is pretty much what happened. It is not hard to give credits or refunds, VJ just did not want to and did not care that his employees do not know company policy or how to speak with people. This probably is not the first time his employees ignorance- unless it is intentional and NOT negligent- has made him some money. If you have any problems here, do not expect any help from anyone.
