“A mixed bag of experiences”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 March 2011

I had both positive and negative experiences at this Super 8 in Moore, OK. When I first arrived, I was lucky I didn't unpack right away because my television only worked for about two minutes. It suddenly went off and I couldn't get it to turn back on. I called the front desk and the gentleman contacted the manager who said I can have another room, which goes for a higher rate, at the rate I paid for the current room. The man at the front desk said the television didn't work the day before for previous guests. I can't figure out why they would place me in that room if the television was out of order. But I did get a new room, which was good customer service. The new room had a widescreen television, a better comforter, king-size bed (my original room was a queen), and more pillows. Otherwise, the room was similar to my queen with the same amenities. The heater worked well but the front compartment kept falling off when I turned it on or off. The dresser had a hole on top of it which was covered by a advertising sign. Obviously, this hotel needs to make some upgrades and repairs to their furniture. The coffee maker worked fine, but the room coffee tasted awful. Either drink the free coffee in the hotel in the morning, or bring your own. One of the days I was there, housekeeping only made the bed and took out the trash. However, the housekeeper called me later in the day and asked if I needed anything. That call was very much appreciated. The bed was comfortable and sheets were very clean. No stains or holes in them like in many other budget hotels. Room was a non-smoking room and it smelled clean. No ashtrays like in many other non-smoking hotel rooms. The bathroom had a whirlpool tub which worked well and felt great. This hotel is in a safe, clean area.

Good:
Staff is helpful and makes an effort to solve problems.
Non-smoking rooms smell clean and fresh.
Bed linens are clean.
You can't beat the low rates.
Hotel is a short drive to Oklahoma City and all tourist attractions.
There are many fast-food restaurants (McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell), 7-11 with gas station near hotel. Walmart is about two exits south on I-35.
All rooms have a coffee maker, refrigerator, and mircrowave.
Bad:
Hotel is hard to find if you're coming in from the airport or from anywhere north of Moore on I-35, especially at night.
You'll get some traffic noise from I-35, but you won't hear it much with heater or air conditioner running. Better yet, bring your earplugs.
Hotel needs to invest in some new furniture and televisions.
Housekeeping can be slow to clean your room.

Room Tip: Ask for king, corner rooms

“These people are theives”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2009

I did not technically stay here, but having been charged for a room, although it remained empty, I beleive I am technically a customer, if only in spirit. I was moving from Kansas to Texas and made a reservation for about half way in between that was cheap and hopefully clean,so we could rest with our baby at night. We got lost and called the hotel ([--], not even the 800 number) about 30 miles after our missed exit. We asked for either directions back, a credit to another super 8 farther down the road, a credit for a later time or just a regular refund. The front desk person was not helpful at all. He could not/ would not give us directions back to the hotel and said he cannot give a credit to another location, but offered the solution of a refund. We said, great and just got a hotel in the town we had stopped to call them from... no problem, right. Wrong. When we got home and got the internet set up, we called the super 8 because there was no refund and the manager told us to call the internet booking agent we'd used because THEY had the money. Cheap tickets- the site we used- said they CAN refund the money IF the hotel gives them the ok, but that the hotel did not want to give us the money back. We called back again, and VJ, the manager and same person we had spoken to in the morning, changed his story, saying that since we had cancelled on the same day it was non-refundable... ok, BUT when we called we were not told that. Also, we made the reservation before leaving our old home, hours before we left Kansas...so even if we had wanted to cancel IMMEDIATELY after making the reservation, we'd not have gotten our refund/credit…. If we'd known we would be charged a hundred bucks without actually getting anything, we would have turned around and driven the 30 miles back to the missed exit. But on Halloween night- with drunken drivers coming out more as it gets later... and a screaming, tired baby in the back seat we foolishly believed the answer given us to a simple question...can we get our money back? So, in the end, we got no refund and no credit- having asked for either- and when I asked the manager straight “ so, there is no solution, you just lie to me so that you have another free room and keep my money” and he said “ well, that’s our policy”…probably did not mean for it to come out that way, but he pretty much said stealing is a company policy. The definition of STEAL is “to seize, gain, or win by trickery” which is pretty much what happened. It is not hard to give credits or refunds, VJ just did not want to and did not care that his employees do not know company policy or how to speak with people. This probably is not the first time his employees ignorance- unless it is intentional and NOT negligent- has made him some money. If you have any problems here, do not expect any help from anyone.

“Wonderful Value and friendly service”

Was not expecting too much after reading a harsh review, but found this place to be a real find. Close enough to Oklahoma City, many convenient eating places nearby, clean room, microwave/fridge/coffee maker/hair dryer, simple but adequate breakfast. Only negative is that it is close to freeway so there is some highway noise, however the comfortable bed allowed me to get a good nights sleep.

“Only in a dire situation, but even then..”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2008

Just to start off, some things I can be a stickler on when it comes to hotels rooms.. like beds that aren't broken or rooms not having trash just tucked out of the way.

I booked this hotel knowing I wasn't going to expect Grand Hyatt or Ritz Carlton, but I've seen some No-Tell Motels that were in better conditions than the room (Room #208) we were given!

Myself, my girlfriend, daughter and g/f's mother were visiting from Kansas to visit some of my family in Moore for an event in Midwest City but since my girlfriend didn't want a hotel in OKC, we had to settle for some place directly in Moore. This was more of a last-ditch pick, as I had other hotels in mind.

We noticed that the beds sagged very much in the middle the first night. It wasn't until the second night that I found the reason why: the wooden boxspring was broken and was given to us in that condition. Maybe they didn't know about it beforehand, I'm not sure.

Also, we had found an empty bottle of Dasani water underneath the first bed. The only water bottles we had were Kroger brand, so we know for a fact it was not a water we had.

As for some things that I will say that are out of the hotel staff's hands: it's at a location that is both a convenience and an annoyance being right along I-35. For people not familiar with the cities, it has a fairly easy entrance route. But since this stretch of I-35 doesn't have any sound walls, you hear all the traffic, especially at night. There were also a group of older bikers that were staying there so we had to endure all of the motorcycle revving and parking was next to impossible with the said motorcycles.

The complimentary breakfast that was available was only better than one hotel in San Francisco, selection wise. Otherwise, there's plenty of restaurants for a filling breakfast (I strongly suggest Furr's just an exit or so south on I-35 from the motel).

I informed the hotel staff of the room condition at check-out and they said they would figure out who was doing the cleaning for the Friday we checked in and would have Hotels dot com give me a 10%, either credit or refund. Haven't ehard anything from either since.

There are hotels in better condition for just a few dollars more in Moore, Midwest City, Norman and OKC.

Do your research and remember: You DO get what you pay for!

  • Liked — Cheap and right by I-35
  • Disliked — No elevators, noisy due to said highway, half-hearted cleaning, broken bed in our room
