I had never been to the area before and it was nightime when I arrived. The hotel was just off the highway but all of the nearby exits were closed. What should have been a 2 minute drive to the hotel turned into 45 minutes as I had to drive into the City to find someone who could direct me to the frontage road which was well hidden. When I arrived and told the woman behind the desk the problem there was absolutely no reaction, no "Oh, maybe we should post signs..." nothing, she just looked at me and asked for my reservation information. O.K., it's your job on the line, not mine. Anyway, I know how to check for bed bugs (pull up sheets and check under the matress edge, pull out the headboard and look behind it - difficult because it was nailed to the wall - look for blood stains under the sheets, etc.) so it was the first thing I did when I entered the room - no bugs. Good start. Then I did what I suggest everyone should do, wiped down the TV remote, phone, door handles and such with disinfecting wipes and removed the comforter. It sounds like a lot of work but it only takes a few minutes. I didn't look in the fridge nor use the microwave so I can't attest to the cleanliness of the appliances but the rest of the room certainly could have used a deep cleaning - stray hairs, crumbs on the floor, yucky stuff under the cushions of the hide-a-bed/love seat. I assumed the room would have a hair dryer - mistake - but they did have one I could use that looked - well, used, but effective. The worst part of the room was the TV placement. It was in a bureau with doors but the doors only opened halfway so you had to be on the bed to see it! Weird. Most of the people at the motel were contractors but it was quite and I slept welI. My wake-up call was right on time. I grabbed an O.K. muffin in the morning and the weakest cup of coffee ever but was given good directions to my destination. Overall, the hotel was way over-priced and needed to be closed for a good cleaning and update. In its current conition I would not stay again unless it was less than $45.00/night.
