“Horrible experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2006

I had to stay in Lawton, OK for two days for yearly training at the Reserve center. I looked at the photos and the reviews on hotels.com and thought the price was right and it was conveniently located on the same street as the reserve center. Initally on check-in, the receptionist was too busy talking on the desk phone to answer a room call. She didn't greet us, she continued to talk on the phone with her boyfriend while we paid for the room. She messed up the room reservation and gave us a room that had already been occupied. Thank heavens the occupant was easy going, because we basically just walked in on her.

After that, the receptionist gave us another room with another room key. The room keys didn't work! She ran back with new keys and ran off. I walked in the room and this place was absolutely nasty. The beds had stains on them, the place smelled of body funk, the toilets have huge rings and gross stains, the bathtub has a black film in the bottom, and the towels have body hair in them. I had tried to resolve this issue with management, who sent up a foreigner to clean the room. Still after this "cleaning", the room was insufficent to stay in. I ended up leaving the hotel after four hours and still got charged for the full reservation. Unless you feel up to the challenge of staying in a seedy hotel room and paying too much for it, stay away from this hotel.

  • Liked — Absolutely nothing
  • Disliked — Cleanliness of the hotel (it was deficient in ways I'd never expected of a hotel)
  • Tips/Secrets — Don't bother paying the $80 for the room. It isn't worth it.

“Run Down with Hard Beds”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2006

We booked our stay at the Lawton Red Lion online. We were supposed to stay for several days in May 06. We left after the first night. The motel and the grounds are very rundown. The location and people walking around are scary. At night, I was scared to go down to my car without my husband.

The beds were uncomfortable and very hard/extra firm. The furnishings in the room were old and worn out.

After the first night, we moved over to the Best Western, which I highly recommend.

This unfortunate stay was prior to our purchase of this hotel. We performed a renovation in Feb 2007. Its much nicer now. Tim 11.2011 .

“Motel not a Hotel”

Make no mistake - this is not a hotel - this is a motel. My room was on the second floor and faced the parking lot of a bowling alley and a McDonalds. While the room was clean, the sheets were thread bare. The area the motel is located in is not the best area and as a single woman staying alone to attend a boot camp graduation, I can honestly say that I could not sleep as I was afraid. The next day I changed to the Marriot Springhill Suites which was a world of difference. As a woman, I would not stay at this motel.

Upon staying at the worst motel in Lawton-Days Inn, I found myself at a very pristine, pleasant, cutomer first atmosphere. Being a non-smoker I found that by Red Lion booked up situation in a smoking room. The room did not have a hint of smoking in the room except a clean glass ashtray. In addition the "can do" attitude the staff presented was commendable and extremely professional. Right up there with a Marriott stay. Definite Kudos to this location.

“Disappointed”

This hotel was a real disappointment! We made reservations before we arrived in Lawton. Upon arriving at the hotel, there was (what appeared to be) a prostitute walking around the premises. Check-in was an absolute inconvenience ~ I was not treated like a guest. At this point, we were a little leary of seeing what the room was like. My husband checked it out first and came out disgusted. First, his key card didn't work, so the maid had to let him in. When he walked in, there were huge chunks of dust all over the floor. The maid said she had cleaned the a/c filters out. Apparently she "forgot" to vacuum afterwards. We requested a 2nd room, which appeared to be just as filthy. Several guests we spoke with that were staying at this hotel complained that their air conditioning wasn't working properly ~ not good for 90+ degree heat. Needless to say, we checked out immediately, made a few phone calls, and found ourselves at the beautiful, pristine and courteous Holiday Inn Express down the road ~ all for only $9 per night more than the Red Lion Hotel ~ well worth every penny!!!
