“Somewhat okay. Would suggest only if there was absolutely nowhere else to go”
I am a simple person who ususally looks to the positive side of things, but when it came to this hotel, there were not many positives to think of. When I see/hear "Holiday Inn," I usually think "A clean & decent hotel for a reasonable price..." For this Holiday Inn, I can only think "Very Low Quality and overpriced for this standard.." When I booked with this hotel, I was not expecting lush amenities of the Waldorf Astoria or Hilton hotels. Just something at least clean, decent, and quality enough to feel comfortable in during a 4-day stay. After staying at this hotel, I felt very happy to leave.
I (and a few elderly people) stayed in a room with double beds--- room 241. Paid $110/night for a small low quality room that had: no microwave or mini-refrigerator at the least, spider-webs on the ceiling room, peeling wallpaper, dirty bathroom floor (hair and particles looked like they swept in all corners), dirty bathtub, dirty & old sinks, towels (dirty??) had been thrown on top of the cabinet (where TV sits), gross coffee pot, uncomfortable beds, has only about 14 channels--only 1 cable station(HBO), and the room was ice cold & it took SEVERAL HOURS for room to be heated. (Several hours after checking-in, we all left our room because it was still cold inside.) Overall, it looked like nobody had been in that particular room for a long time.
I had seen my other family members rooms in this hotel and their room was pretty much like my room---minus the spiderwebs and thrown towels on top of tv cabinet. Some of their rooms had a bit of an odor too. Be sure to bring slippers or flip-flops for walking in bathroom, some disinfecting wipes, and a can of Lysol just in case.
As far as anything not in the hotel room: the hallways were very cold, you are assigned to rooms that are far away from your party/group, there's hardly any ice in the ice machines at any time of the day, the complimentary morning coffee or tea bags in the lobby are put away before 9:30-10:00a. There were no rolls, danish, muffins, fruit, etc.---you have to pay for that ($4.95). Everything that you want to eat or drink is expensive. The breakfast buffet is about $9.60. It has small boxes of cereal, eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, pancakes, yogurt, danish, regular/chocolate milk, and grape/cranberry/grapefruit juices. Coffee or Orange Juice is not apart of buffet---about $3 extra. The Holiday Inn says that kids eat for free---well that is not true. There is a charge for kids 12 and under (I beleive it was about $5 for food only). Room service is 15% gratuity+ about extra $2.00 for delivery charge. Honestly, delivery from somewhere else or just going outside the hotel for food & beverages is best. $.25 for all local calls. A Microwave or a mini-frige are $15 each per night. They aren't necessarily clean when you first get them. If you need internet access, bring your laptop because they have Wi-Fi. If you don't, there's public internet access that you pay for (via credit card)--minimum is $5.00. They also have public access fax or copy machine---for a charge of course. Their gift shop is very small & pricey and the hours are limited. The pool area was okay--needs a bit of updating and some cleaning. The jacuzzi could fit about 5 people and maintained good heat. The sauna was okay--could use a bit of cleaning. The lounge/bar area is pretty decent--relaxed & friendly atmosphere.
Last but not least, the positives. I had a bit of communication with some of the staff and I felt that they were pretty friendly & helpful with directions and places. Check-in and check-out was very smooth and quick. Room service was fast and friendly. Houskeeping was friendly & fast with bringing towels, extra pillows, and toilet paper,etc... The location isn't bad. I didn't feel like I was in a dangerous area. It is very close to a plaza that has a grocery store, gas stations, fast food/delivery restaurants, etc. The familiar chain of stores (walmart, cvs, walgreens, etc) and restaurants (tgif fridays, etc) and malls are no more than 15-20 minutes way from hotel and requires highway driving. (I didn't see any bus stations or subway/rails for public use.)
I have given a fair, truthful view of the Holiday Inn Cleveland-East(Wickliffe) and I hope this is helpful to anyone that reads this...
