I'm writing this review primarily to help rectify the "error" of this hotel out-ranking the Comfort Inn on the other side of the highway. I've had occasion to spend a couple of months in Upper Sandusky since November, with several weeks in each hotel, so I know them both quite well.
I stay in this hotel primarily to save money, when I can get our 20% corporate discount with Wyndham. Without that discount, I happily spend the few (10-11) extra dollars on the Comfort Inn -- an even better deal if there are two of you in the room. There is a very clear half-star difference in the quality levels of the two hotels. (If this is considered a 2-star hotel, then the Comfort Inn is a 2.5-star hotel.)
I've also found the hotel managers to be friendly, and that earns some loyalty. They seem to be doing their best to turn around what I've heard from locals was quite an awful hotel before. But the hotel is what it is:
Pros:
- Less expensive
- Clean (but with some doubt about the pool).
Cons:
- Advertised fitness center and hot tub haven't been available for at least four months.
- Breakfast is meager, to but it mildly. (Waffles, instant coffee, juice-like beverages, cereal, usually milk, bread, and small packaged pastries.)
- Microwave & TV not in complete working order in all rooms. (My favorite shortcoming: the microwave whose only working time number button was "1"; there are four minutes each day when you can set its clock correctly.) ;-)
- Wireless Internet is unreliably weak in parts of the hotel.
Bottom line: Clean basic hotel, but more like a very good 1-star hotel than an average 2-star hotel.
