I was looking for a weekend getaway for myself and my two small children. I called ahead to get a price quote and ask about availability. I was told $69, and it seemed reasonable for a place with an indoor pool (my children's only request.) I got there, and the man couldn't remember the price he told me. I don't know if that is customary to give different rates to different guests. (Perhaps because of my small children?) After I paid,I was told I needed to "make sure my children stay quiet in common areas" I have common sense and my children are very well behaved. They are, however, children. We got to our room, relaxed a little, showered, (water pressure was okay)changed and went down to the pool. There was no one else there, so we enjoyed ourselves, splashing around and switching from pool to hot tub. The initial appearance of the pool and hot tub bothered the children - discoloration, and a cover off of a filter, but the water seemed fairly clean and chlorinated. After about twenty minutes, the desk clerk came in and told me that the kids would have to stop screaming! They were just laughing and having fun, but I apologized greatly if they were irritating other guests (we saw three guests while there). I felt a little like the man said it as if he were annoyed that there were children there. We went back up to the room and I discovered that the sink was clogged. I called downstairs and no one came up. Upon further investigation, I realized that the plug was somehow stuck in the down position. I tried several different ways, including climbing under the sink and trying to push it up (it was dirty under there - the wall and floor.) I called back downstairs and the lady said she was there alone (this was about 1pm) and that no one else would be in until later. I figured that meant someone would come up at that time - no one did. She told me to do the best I could - we ended up brushing our teeth and washing faces and hands in the tub. Not a huge deal, but something I felt certainly should have been addressed. This issue still wasn't dealt with on the second day. I went to the front desk and they told me it was on a maintenance list. I felt uneasy in the hallways, as if the desk manager was watching me sharply waiting for me or my children to do something wrong. When he did this, I felt his tone was more on the rude side than just enforcing rules. The breakfast was okay. Cereal and toast, they also had bagels and danish and that area seemed clean. After spending most of the second day away from the room, it appeared housekeeping had not come, the beds weren't made and we didn't even have fresh towels. At just about check out time, we went back to our room, and were locked out! I went downstairs and informed them, the man ran the card keys through a machine, said they seemed fine and sent me back upstairs. They still didn't work. I would have assumed after the second try, he would have accompanied me back to the room to try, instead he sent me back again. After four trips up and down, it was resolved. Upon checkout, the man seemed courteous and told us to come back again. Overall, I felt that I was treated as a second-rate guest because I was accompanied by small children. In defense of this hotel, I have not stayed at a non-resort hotel in many years, so this service may be typical. Maybe my standards were too hi for a small-town pineapple people place. I feel that I am a fair, reasonable person, but felt a little slighted at this stay. I would probably not recommend this to anyone traveling with little ones, but it may be worth a visit for others. As an additional note, two of the light bulbs in the room were burnt out and the blankets were a little itchy.
