“No safes in room, daughter had Ipod stolen by Hotel Staff”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2010

The room was nice, the location was nice, the price was right. We arrived Friday night around 8 p.m., check-in was quick (I am a Rewards member but I don't think that sped it up any.) Had a great first night's sleep.

Daughter did her homework using Ipod touch calculator on Friday night and finished Saturday a.m. We left the hotel around 7:45 a.m. and returned home at 11 a.m. The Ipod was no longer with her homework. (We tore apart the entire room, twice, our minivan, our luggage and our coat pockets just in case.) Hotel housekeeping is the only one that was in the room all weekend, other than us.

After verifying that we had left it in the room, and it wasn't misplaced somewhere, we contacted the front desk. The front desk person called her manager, who said she would call our room when she arrived. No call Saturday night. Checked again on Sunday, was told manager had scheduled all hotel house keeping staff for interviews on Monday, and manager would call us. Verified all of our contact info so manager could get in touch with us.

Over a month later, still no contact from anyone from the hotel. Not One. Single. Word.

We ended up turning in a police report, as the hotel management clearly doesn't care or is trying to keep things quiet.

“Great stay but a tad pricey”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2009

My husband and I, son and wife booked 2 rooms here. We both got the king spa (kind size bed with jacuzzi tub). Rooms were VERY clean, as was the entire hotel. Jacuzzi tub was not big enough for two people.

Coffee maker in room was very clean and worked well, as did the refrigerator and A/C. Did not use microwave. Landscaping around hotel was very nice. Pool area was very clean, although we did not get time to swim. Breakfast was kind of disappointing. The danishes, although pre-packaged, were very dry and had no taste. Not a big selection of muffins on Friday-better on Saturday. No other rolls offered. Bagels were fresh and good.

Very close to many great places to eat. A little hard to find the hotel unless you saw the big sign on the building first. Watch the bump (about half-curb height) going into their driveway from the service road.

Very quiet even though it was close to highway. There was a large group of soccer families that arrived Friday night and the hotel posted signs that no soccer equipment was to be brought into the hotel. That was great!

“Japanse TV program !”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2008

I feel this hotel is quite standard, and in standard location.

Better point :
Staffs are very friendly, gently.
Bed and pillow are very comfortable.
Japanese program (NHK) can be watched.

Worth point :
little far to walk to shopping center (Walmart) in winter time. Less select in breakfast.
Bathroom looks well maintained but old.
Can't close curtain by structure reason, I feel very cold in night time.

“Nice but pricey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2008

The Fairfield Inn is fine. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the room was comfortable. The property is being renovated (Feb 2008) but it was not noisy and we were not inconvenienced as a result. Some old furniture was left in a stairwell, and covered in dust thick enough to have some words scrawled in it, but this was not in a prominent location of the inn.

The beds were great--very comfortable, lots of pillows (8 for 2 queen beds), fitted sheets--and the refrigerator worked well. The TV may or may not have not been working--the channel guide next to it listed many stations besides the dozen or so we could choose using the remote or the set itself. I asked the desk clerk if the channel guide was current, and she said she would ask, but we never heard back from her. Kids TV channels were listed on the guide but none of them came in on the TV, so that disappointed some of our party. The kids liked the pool, though, which was large, well-lit, and clean.

The lobby has a computer for guests to use, and no complicated procedures to get online. The entire property is non-smoking; there's an enclosed, lighted area outside for smokers to use. A sidewalk leads right to a good restaurant, CJ Highmarks, which is similar to Bob Evans' menu & price. The Fairfield Inn's complimentary breakfast was slightly better than most continental breakfasts, with a waffle maker and several cold choices (including yogurt and microwaveable biscuit sandwiches), but if something else is desired, there are several other restaurants nearby.

My kids were involved in a swim meet at a nearby YMCA, and when the desk clerk found out she handed us a nice printed card with detailed directions. She was also very appreciative when I returned and pointed out that they were incorrect.

If the price had been $15 cheaper I would have given the place 5 stars, but given the better experience we've had lately at less expensive places elsewhere in Ohio, I think this one rates slightly lower. Next time we're in Troy, we'll probably try somewhere else instead.

“Lodging is VERY limited in the Troy area (20 miles north of Dayton).”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2007

people found this review helpful

While there are several nice hotels in Dayton , quality lodging is very limited in the Troy-Piqua area. Several mid-range places to choose from, but many are not well kept.

The Fairfield Inn, a Marriott property, had a very attentive staff, was very clean, and had nice bedding (all replaced in the last year according to them). The breakfast was very blah - we went across the street to a restaurant instead.

As we travel there once or twice a year, we have tried the other national chains in the area - and have been very disappointed.
This experience was good - would stay there again.
