On the evening of 10/8/10, my fiance and I left New Jersey to spend a weekend in Ohio with my family. We had planned on leaving NJ at 11:30pm after both of us had spent 10+ hours at work and driving about 4 1/2 hours and stopping along a highway hotel. We got to our halfway point around 4:30am and every single hotel from Clearfield, PA west to Youngstown was booked solid. We were referred to Hawthorn Suites by another hotel. We arrived around 8:45am after driving for 9 hours, to Hawthorn Suites so exhausted and ready to sleep just for a few hours before we had to be at a family function at 6pm. When we got there, the General Manager Kimberly Beck was EXTREMELY helpful. Originally she wasn't sure if she could accommodate us as the hotel was booked for many events going on in the area. She called other hotels and when she found out that their rate was higher than Hawthorn's, she spent a good 10 minutes trying to figure out what she could do for us. She finally told us she had a room for us (and it was a great price). Overall, Kimberly was THE best (friendliest, nicest, most helpful) hospitality professional we came into contact with on our trip, and probably throughout our experiences with staying in hotels over the past several years. She listened to our sob story and was helpful beyond words.
