I learned that all hotels on top of the black line in the Wyndham logo get twice to 3 x the air miles or points. That is Wyndham, Windham Gardens, their timeshares, Hawthorn Suites, Planet Hollywood, Wingate, Tryp, Dream. The below area are motels that have points & miles but very low. I learned all this from the front desk agent who knew plenty about Wyndham Rewards, an By Request members. We are By Request members and are to give this info # to them with reservations. But their agent stated we are no different fromm other people. She took our By Request # and saw we want down comforter in duvet with down pilows, sensitive skin toiletries, vodka to relax with and cheese & crackers. She filled the request within an hour of our arrival.
Then I wanted to see an amusement park called Chippewa Lake Park. I grew up in a cabin on the property next to the roller coaster & the train ran behind us. Jungle Larry & Jane with their son lived next to us. The park closed in 1978, was to be sold to 3 groups over the next 10 years. Then sign welcoming you to the park fell apart but the steel holder still is in the driveway in 2011. The front desk clerk's father was a Sherrif at the park. So she had the run of the park, like me, to swim in the Lake, go on rides with the Owner (Parker Beach), or the concerts with top rockers. She gave us excellent directions and there was the steel sign holder in the driveway. I see the roller coaster and the cabins that are homes for Section 8 folks. The brick BBQ is knocked down recently but all of them are due for demolition within th next few months as they tear down what is left in the park. We get a tour by an elderly Sherrif who works there to stop trespassers. As we are walking to the ballroom/hotel area we see it flat on the ground since a fire set by someone unknown but the ceiling was OK and still there. Then a large BOOM as the rollercoaster starts to fall down. I cried as I felt like a funeral. So we left wiith the dirt and stink & he is also. As we get in the car I see the ferris wheel with a 30 year old tree growing through it and the tree is cut down and the wheel goes also.
So back to the hotel and all is quiet at the front desk. She sees me blowing my nose and hugs me. She had a pot of coffee & cookies, so we sat with her telling her what Nick told us & showed us that was left & the coaster& ferris wheel all fell in front of us. Too dirty to stay. She tells us Hilton Hotel bought the area with the Senior Citizen park next door. They plan a luxury hotel, casino, culinary school, a kid's area with boats in a large pool, boats for the guests to use the lake. Timeshares will go where the Seniors have lived for years.
Then we asked where to go for a meal since the hotel has no food. Down the street to a Dairy Queen which has an excellent farmers restaurant. Darling home feel place, all wood, burgers, steaks, stew which I had & it was great. Then we had the blizzards for the ride back.
