“Did not get the type of room we reserved.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

We are Wyndham By Request members and had the exact opposite experience as the person who wrote What a Surprise..." I made our reservations in September for 4 nights in a non-smoking King Suite starting December 28th.. When we arrived we were given a handicap queen room that said it was nonsmoking, but clearly when we walked in we could smell smoke. We went to the desk to ask to be changed and they said there were no more rooms available. I explained that I reserved a King Size bed and we had gotten and queen size handicap room instead. Still we were told sorry, that is because we booked online and they don't honor online requests! I have never heard of such a policy. We made our reservations through the hotel website, not something like Hotels.com or Priceline.

The room was tightly configured so that a wheelchair could get to one side of the bed. The walk in shower leaked into the bathroom floor. We only had 2 bath towels, 2 hand towels and 2 washcloths, and no floor mat to wipe up the wet floor. There was not counter space in the bathroom. We stayed the first night since we were going to be charged for it and I called the Comfort Inn and Suites next door and got a room for the rest of our stay. When I called to cancel the rest of our nights, I was told that maybe they could work something out for us. I told them it was too late.

I certainly hope that it is not Wyndham or Hawthorn Suites policy that online reservations are not guaranteed. We have stayed at other Wyndham properties before and never had this problem. We certainly will not repeat our mistake at this particular location.

Room Tip: If you make a reservation online, call the hotel and make sure they know what type of room you want.

“What a Surprise From Wyndham Rewards”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

I learned that all hotels on top of the black line in the Wyndham logo get twice to 3 x the air miles or points. That is Wyndham, Windham Gardens, their timeshares, Hawthorn Suites, Planet Hollywood, Wingate, Tryp, Dream. The below area are motels that have points & miles but very low. I learned all this from the front desk agent who knew plenty about Wyndham Rewards, an By Request members. We are By Request members and are to give this info # to them with reservations. But their agent stated we are no different fromm other people. She took our By Request # and saw we want down comforter in duvet with down pilows, sensitive skin toiletries, vodka to relax with and cheese & crackers. She filled the request within an hour of our arrival.

Then I wanted to see an amusement park called Chippewa Lake Park. I grew up in a cabin on the property next to the roller coaster & the train ran behind us. Jungle Larry & Jane with their son lived next to us. The park closed in 1978, was to be sold to 3 groups over the next 10 years. Then sign welcoming you to the park fell apart but the steel holder still is in the driveway in 2011. The front desk clerk's father was a Sherrif at the park. So she had the run of the park, like me, to swim in the Lake, go on rides with the Owner (Parker Beach), or the concerts with top rockers. She gave us excellent directions and there was the steel sign holder in the driveway. I see the roller coaster and the cabins that are homes for Section 8 folks. The brick BBQ is knocked down recently but all of them are due for demolition within th next few months as they tear down what is left in the park. We get a tour by an elderly Sherrif who works there to stop trespassers. As we are walking to the ballroom/hotel area we see it flat on the ground since a fire set by someone unknown but the ceiling was OK and still there. Then a large BOOM as the rollercoaster starts to fall down. I cried as I felt like a funeral. So we left wiith the dirt and stink & he is also. As we get in the car I see the ferris wheel with a 30 year old tree growing through it and the tree is cut down and the wheel goes also.

So back to the hotel and all is quiet at the front desk. She sees me blowing my nose and hugs me. She had a pot of coffee & cookies, so we sat with her telling her what Nick told us & showed us that was left & the coaster& ferris wheel all fell in front of us. Too dirty to stay. She tells us Hilton Hotel bought the area with the Senior Citizen park next door. They plan a luxury hotel, casino, culinary school, a kid's area with boats in a large pool, boats for the guests to use the lake. Timeshares will go where the Seniors have lived for years.

Then we asked where to go for a meal since the hotel has no food. Down the street to a Dairy Queen which has an excellent farmers restaurant. Darling home feel place, all wood, burgers, steaks, stew which I had & it was great. Then we had the blizzards for the ride back.

Located off I-71 north of Akron OH. Address: 5025 Park Avenue West Rates for Seniors are $79 Queen suite & $83 for King Suite. She got us 2 queen beds suite which was a very large room. Free Net access, pets allowed, free breakfast buffet.

Room Tip: Senior rate is $20% off, pets are allowed & you pay a deposit against any accidents & if all...

“Best hospitality I've ever experienced.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

We needed a room for wedding preparations for our daughter's wedding. We lived an hour away, stayed one night at the Hawthorne after the rehearsal dinner. The bridesmaids needed a place to dress for the wedding since the venue was ill equipped for that. Even though check out is at 12 and all of their rooms were booked for the next night, they were willing to give us another room from12 to 3 for showers and dressing and also opened the conference room for the girls to do hair, makeup and get prep pictures with the photographer. Anything we needed they offered. They genuinely seemed to care for us and our needs during this very stressful, important time. We rested well and our rooms were clean.

“The best of the 3 motels in the immediate vicinity”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

My wife and I were visiting family in Lodi and this is the best we found within 5-10 miles. The grounds were clean and well maintained, our room was clean and well appointed for the price; the staff was friendly and helpful; and the breakfast included more than the generic cereals and waffle machine (eggs and sausage/bacon and potatoes). This was my second stay and will stay again on our next trip

“No pillows are available.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 May 2011

This property has not been updated since I began staying here 5 years ago.. The tile floors in the bath area are loose and crunch under your feet. All the floors "move" when you walk on them. And the beds, really, the coil mattresses are noisy and outdated. The cookies you get upon check-in are a nice touch but having coffee with them would have been even better. Paper thin walls, so be prepared to hear everything in the hallways. Rooms are clean and most of the staff is friendly. Oh, and parking is horrible if the property is full. Oh yeah, bring your patch cable, no WIFI.
