“Wouldn't stay there again.”

Location was convenient to Cedar Point but no shuttle, good selection of food nearby but properties next door are abandoned, creating a feeling that the area is unsafe.
Staff was excellent, but the continental breakfast was very poor and when it ran low, staff said, "that's it"
Even though this is a budget motel, it is not worth it, spend a little more and get a decent room.

“No frills, but clean and convenient location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

A very basic motel, reminded me of the places we stayed at when I was a kid. Very convenient to Cedar Point, and met our goal, which was a cheap place to stay the night in between 2 long days at the parks. After a day of fun, we didn't need anything fancy, just basic accommodations, and this place was fine. A good deal of space in the "suite" - actually 2 adjoining rooms, which was nice, since it gave us an extra bathroom. It was clean and staff were pleasant. We will probably stay there on future visits.

“Be warned...but stay if you dare”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2011

I was with a large group, with 9 rooms.

This is a motel, so all outside rooms. There is also a connecting hall from the pool side of the hotel to the "back". It's really dirty and creepy.

Everything was just rough around the edges. Bathroom didn't appear that it could be clean...old tile...bad paint.

All the rooms connect in the middle...not next door...which surprised us (church group) and we wound up moving rooms around.

Staff was ok, but were kind of non-helpful when we asked about changing the credit card. They told us it would take 2 weeks and we wound up just using the original.

There is a quite buggy and smelly swamp next to the pool, and much train noise, and a closed business right next door...so watch letting kids wander.

It's a great location, but actually too close to the light that goes to Cedar Point that you have a hard time getting out during park rush times.

I wouldn't say run away, but just be warned by this and other reviews.

“NEVER EVER AGAIN WILL I STAY HERE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2011
1

This was by far the most disgusting hotel I have ever stayed at. If it weren't for the fact that it was booked and paid for by a family member I would have demanded my money back and left. Let me start by saying we weren't expecting a great room, just somewhere decent to sleep and shower before and after a day at Cedar Point and a place close enough that I could take my young boys to nap and swim if they got tired while the other adults and kids stayed at the park. Needless to say I stuck it out for the full 12 hours with my 2 and 4 year old because we did NOT want to spend any more time in the room then necessary. The most pressing issue by far is the cleanliness of the rooms. We were in one room and we had family in the room next to us and both rooms were equally dirty so I can't even give them the benefit of the doubt. My family next door found a french fry and half eaten candy bar behind the nightstand and a bug in one of the beds that we determined was not a bedbug but was still in fact a bug but I will not speak any more on their behalf. In our room our lamp would not turn on, there was a LARGE wad of someones hair on the sheets, the walls clearly had large holes in them at one time that had just been covered with spackle and left at that, the tv was either blaring loud or there was no sound at all, the chair had a strange stain on it that I won't even try and guess about, the in room safe that is recommended by the owners that we use to ensure our belongings are safe would not lock and for that matter our room door did not close and lock properly, one of the beds in butted up directly next to the air conditioning we froze all night while the kids were comfortable. I couldn't figure out why there were pieces of plaster all over the bathroom floor and in the tub. Turns out the shower curtain bar was practically ripped out of the wall so the shower curtain wouldn't stay closed, it would just fall back to the middle. A few doors down from our room was the ice room and in that room was a huge overflowing bag of garbage that was left by the staff and a broken ironing board and the door to the boiler room/cleaning service room was left open and my kids wandered in there at one point. Now lets talk about the "continental breakfast". I was not expecting the waffle iron and all the fancy things that come in the nicer hotels but this was pathetic. I was hoping for at least a bagel or a banana!! But I could live with what we were given if it was ever stocked. The coffee was always brewing and never ready, we found the bowels in the cabinets ourselves since on one restocked them and in fact when one woman asked if there were anymore she was told "yeah they are in that cabinet" by a staff member. But the icing in the cake was today when I went down to grab a glass of milk for my son. I realize that breakfast ends at 9:30 and it is very possible that I was there at 9:31 but there was another person there. The same staff member I mentioned earlier (didn't catch her name but she did have one tattooed on her neck...) was filling the cereal bar and the other woman had 2 bowls of dry cereal and was waiting for milk and coffee (which was, of course, brewing) So after being totally ignored by the staff member she finally asked if there was "any chance of getting milk for the cereal" and was told that she could have 2 cups of milk. I didn't realize that breakfast was over so I said "oh did they run out of milk" because that was what I was waiting for and she informed me that she was told breakfast was over even though she was there before 9:30 and had been waiting. At that point I decided my son would have to deal with apple juice instead but when I went to fill the cup the juice machine was off even though I had just gotten a cup of juice when I arrived for myself and drank it while waiting. When the staff member returned with the milk I asked her if I could get some juice and she told me that she turned it off because "she didn't mean to sound rude but breakfast was over and she turned if off because she didn't have time to clean out the crud (her word not mine) in the catch because she had to get cleaning 100 rooms which was part of her shift". The woman then asked who it was who cleans her room number because it was filthy and I also made a comment about how long it could possibly take to clean the rooms because they were not clean. Now I will say that shedid fill the juice cup for me to make sure I didn't spill. On a positive note the pool seemed ok and the beds were sorta comfy and there was good water pressure. I am so sorry to have to leave such a horrible review of anything but this place was by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.

“Wouldn't stay here again if Howard Johnson himself paid me to do it.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2011

This was by far the most disgusting "hotel" I've ever stayed in. It doesn't even qualify as a hotel, its a motel. When my daughter and I first got to the room, it looked as though someone had gone on a rampage and ripped all the fixtures off the wall. When someone "repaired" it all, they slapped some spackel over the holes and screwed all the fixtures back in different spots, so the whole room was full of huge spackel spots. Not to mention everything was grossly crooked, the clothes rack, the mirror, and the lamps on the wall were all extremely crooked. It looked as though we were staying in Willy Wonka's motel room. Then, the drain stopper was stuck down in the sink, and nothing would drain. When I pulled up on the metal rod to open it, the whole metal rod came up a good 5 inches. I looked underneath the sink, and the mechanism had been duct taped together and was just hanging underneath the sink. I had to manually put the mechanism back together and push it up from underneath to get the drain to open. There was black mold all over the bathroom walls. There appeared to have been an enormous leak behind the toilet wall at one time, because it was disgusting and covered with, again, tons of spackel to try to hide the mess. The light to the bathroom didn't come on for about 30 seconds after you flip the switch, but it does turn the fan on also, which comes on immediately. That scared my daughter half to death which promted her to immediately flip it off and made us search for a switch to turn on the light for a good 10 minutes before we figured out you have to stand there and wait for the light to come on. Which also meant you couldn't have a night light on, because the fan and light were on one switch and the fan sounded like a freight train. The shampoo bottle was missing about 1/4 of it's shampoo (which had obviously been left there since it's user had vacated) and the label had been half worn off, it was so old. The paper pad next to the phone was wrinkled and brown, like people had sat different glasses on it and left rings. The water barely came out of the faucet in the sink, and what did come out came out about 2 cm. away from the back of the sink bowl so you couldn't even get your hands under the water and it sprayed out at about a 45 degree angle to the right. The tub had been rigged so that the faucet was completely bypassed. When you turn the water on, it comes out of the shower head. So anyone with children cannot bathe their kids, you have no choice but to shove them under a shower. And to top it off, I got all of these ammenities for $100 a night! Lucky me. This room was beyond disgusting. Your corporation should be ashamed to have your name on this place. I wouldn't stay at another Howard Johnson if Howard Johnson himself paid me to stay.
