We recently stayed at the Mecca Motel for a trip to Cedar Point. After taxes the bill came to around $55 which was pretty cheap for staying so close to the park. I'll get this out of the way now, the best thing about this motel is its proximity to Cedar Point. Pulling in to the parking lot we knew picked a stinker. We were greeted with peeling paint, broken screen doors, and piles of trash stacked up outside the doors of several rooms. Inside the room was little better. Our room had a strange odor that we decided was a mix of bug spray and Lysol. The window sill was rotten and stained. There were spider webs in the window and the outside faces of the blinds had a thick fuzzy coating of dust. The bed spreads has multiple cigarette burns in them. To be fair the bed sheets were fairly clean, and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was dated, but very clean compared to the bedroom. The TV was OK. A few of the channels picked up interference from the window AC unit in the room. The room was fairly quiet, with the exception of the noise from passing trains, which negated the need for an alarm clock. Their website shows a picture of their free miniature golf course. I'd bet that picture is 10-15 years old. It is overgrown with weeds and most of the turf is ripped up. I never saw where to get balls or clubs. Other than its closeness to CP, the only positives I can think of are Jack's deli across the street (yum!) and the liquor store next door which was important because we needed a few drinks to relax us enough to sleep in that room. If you are trying to save money and are coming to CP from the west, I'd recommend staying at the Motel 6 in Toledo (which is where we spent our 2nd night.) It was $10 cheaper, and much nicer. Its only 45 minutes from CP, so you could leave the hotel at 8:30 am and still get to CP with time to spare before they open at 10.
