“Had a Great Stay...Not a Fake Review”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

After reading some negative reviews, I thought a review from myself was in order. My family and I stayed at this hotel over the Labour Day Weekend (2011). We had a room on the second floor on the east side of the main building. The room was great. Yes, it needed some minor repairs but nothing that hindered our stay in anyway (if the a/c was out I may feel differently). There are also trains which seem to start running after 10pm and this can be loud. We simply left the fan on the a/c unit on and this drowned out the noise. I would suggest that rooms farther away from the front of the building may be better for those sensitive to this type of noise. The hotel is also close to everything and only a short drive away from Cedar Point.

In addition, the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was great (cereal (3 kinds), toast, waffles, yogurt, coffee, juice and more) Excellent considering it is free. Some may say that it is worked into the price of the room but the room rates were so reasonable this is hardly the case. The rooms also had a fridge and microwave so if you don't like the free breakfast you can go and buy your own food and make your own breakfast if you wish.

My family and I have stayed in many hotels and at many resorts in places such as Panama and Cabo. Would we go there again...YES Those with elevated stadards may which to try the Kalahari Resort the next time they visit Sandusky, OH

“Don't stay here!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

Booked reservation through a price line special. The hotel looks fine from first glance, but when you get to the back it reminds me of an old horror movie. A friend joked that it reminded him of a scene from the movie "Vacancy." The hotel is all outdoor access and very very run down. First night we checked in late, and before going to bed we tried to turn on the heater. It didn't work. Tried to toy with it for a bit but the entire unit was shot. No answer at the front desk, so went down to speak with them and apparently the hotel is not staffed after 11pm. Had to sleep in a freezing room, which normally wouldn't bother me except for the fact that it's December. Next day maintenance came up to the room, in which they explained it was in-operable and moved us to a new room.

New room had hair in the bathtub, missing outlet covers, and some other minor housekeeping issues. Dead flies on both window sills, as well as major cobwebs. Water pressure in both rooms was terrible, in which the water cuts on and off during a shower. Also in the first room the hot water lasted about five minutes, while in the second there was just no hot water at all. Each room also only had one bar of soap, and one bottle of shampoo, even though both rooms were rooms designated for four people.

Late at night the phone rang, in which it was a lady telling us they had a noise complaint. I explained we had just woke up to the ring, and she had the wrong room. She used profanity and said if we didn't be quite she was "calling the cops" and slammed down the phone.

We had a second group that met us at the hotel. When they checked us in they requested a room on the second floor, in which they were told "well I already assigned you to one on the first floor, so here are your keys" .. even though there was probably a good five cars in the parking lot.

The breakfast was a joke. Dirty coffee pot, with 1 kind of pop tart, 1 kind of granola bars, and chocolate chip muffins that have probably been there for weeks.

Hotel sits next to a train that runs quite frequently. We checked out a day early and checked in to a nearby hotel down the road. Front desk denied any refund for the night we did not stay because it was already paid in full upon check in. We still ate the money and checked out.

It appears that many of the good reviews on this hotel are probably fake. Beware!

“Actually quite nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2011

One of the better Knight Inns I've stayed. It's better thank it looks. We had a large room with jacuzzi. Bit strange that the tub has no walls around it and it sit in the middle of the room, dividing the rest of the bath & bedroom. Quite funny :) Just minutes away form Cedar Point with was the reason for our stay. Smaller outdoor pool but it does the job well after an exciting day in the park. Beds were good, safe present. Everything you need and for a good price.

“The only hotel I'll ever stay at in Sandusky”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

I've stayed in Sandusky countless times and experienced one terrible hotel after another (dirty, bugs, broken TVs, no free breakfast, noisy, etc, etc). It got so bad that for my Cedar Point trips I'd drive 20 miles out of Sandusky just to stay away from its hotels! This year I tried something different by looking into Sandusky again because I didn't want to do the drive. I found this Knights Inn on TripAdvisor and although it had some questionable reviews, I decided to give it a shot.

We initially booked this hotel for 1 night through the Knights Inn website and received a great deal for booking in advance. When we checked in the room was clean and fresh and we had zero problems with the room or the staff, it was exactly what you hoped you would receive when going to a budget hotel...except for the room itself. Although the bedding was the typical outdated 90s floral pattern, the rest of the furnishing were fairly modern (including a flat panel TV). The star of this room however was the king size jetted tub, which was amazing after a long day at the park!

When we decided to stay another night, the hotel staff politely informed us that our current room was booked and we would have to move to another, without the jetted tub. Although this room went for $30 more because we did not book in advance, we were still very pleased. Everything was comfortable and clean and the move from one room to another went very well with zero problems; they even let us check in early so we could go ahead and go to the park without worrying about a room.

Some reviewers noted this hotel was noisy due to the train. Although yes, you can easily hear the train, it was by no means loud and did not disturb my sleep at all, and I'm not a heavy sleeper. If you really think it might be a problem for you, just bring some ear plugs. I also didn't hear any noisy dogs and no part of the hotel smelled like smoke to me, and as I have asthma and am sensitive to smoke, this was a big relief!

The location of this hotel was excellent. Coming off the Cedar Point causeway, it's just a left turn and about a mile down the road - this hotel is literally the last thing before you leave the town. The only downside is that there are very few places to eat and you do have to drive a couple miles if you want something familiar like fast food, but it did not pose a problem for us at all. Breakfast was, in my opinion, beyond what I expected for a budget hotel. It was a typical continental breakfast spread but what got me were the availability of options, including some Nature Valley granola bars and donuts from a local bakery. Every other guest I encountered was very polite. Also, if you bring a dog to this hotel, there's a large grassy area next to the hotel's parking lot.

Overall, all of my future trips to Cedar Point and Sandusky will involve this hotel. I was so glad to finally experience a Sandusky hotel worthy enough to spend my money on and it will be the only hotel I recommend to family and friends who are going to Sandusky. I only hope this hotel will keep up its class act for future visitors, including myself!

Room Tip: Book at least a week in advance!
