My friends and I stayed for one night at Sand Castle Suites. We originally wanted to book one of the cabins on the cedar point property, but apparently they were "booked up" even though Cedar Point seemed almost dead during the time we went. (During the week, July 13th-14th) The choice was between this or Hotel Breakers (we wanted to stay on property) and Hotel Breakers had worse reviews and the rooms were a lot more outdated and dingy looking than here, so we gave it a try.
We had a total of 6 people, so we had adequate sleeping arrangements. We paid somewhere around $300 for a night which was definitely over-priced. This is more like a motel than a hotel to be honest. Don't expect anything more.
Our room was clean, but I did not walk around there bare-foot. It may have been payed more attention to since the hotel seemed under-booked. The one thing that worked extremely well....maybe TOO well....was the air conditioning. It was SOO cold I was sure we were all going to wake up with pneumonia. It was so cold to the point that it produced condensation on items sitting near the vent....The suites are not that big, but if you do not have the pull-out couch spread out, there's enough room to move around.
The lobby was small and had an outdated 2-stall bathroom which was in need of renovation. We stayed on the ground floor so we did not experience filthy stairwells others have complained about. They have also screened in the balconies so the issue with the massive amount of flies/gnats they get in the area seemed to have been resolved. We never visited the pool and the beach was infested with a mass amount of geese.
The location is good, but it is still a bit of a walk. Probably the farthest location on property. Hotel Breakers seemed to have a back entrance to the park which would have been convenient if we stayed there, and the campground/cabins seemed to be closer than Sand Castle Suites. Early entry was nice, however a LOT of the rides are NOT open during early entry.....
We were a fairly loud group who spent the night listening to music and did some moderate partying...now the walls seemed to be abnormally thick, or no one cared to call and complain which was a shock to us. So either management wasn't doing their job, or no one could hear us and no rooms were booked around us even though we saw people in the hallway....hmm.
Either way, it was still a good time and it was okay enough to spent one night there. I wouldn't make it more than a 2-day trip.
