“Peaceful relaxation at Glen Laurel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011 via mobile

We have been to Glen Laurel 5 times over the past 4 years and will continue to return. This was our first Dickens dinner, 5 courses of excellent food and a wonderful storyteller reading the Dickens Scrooge classic in between courses.

Our cottage was clean and comfortable but we thought the dark walls were too much and will stay in a cottage with lighter colored walls next time. As we age light is very important for reading and both my husband and I struggled with an inabilty to read in the evening.

Privacy and peacefulness abound at Glen Laurel. It's a wonderful place to escape from the stress of our busy lives!

“Amazing Dickens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

We stayed at Glen Laurel with our friends on December 11 in the MacDougal Croft as we experienced the Dickens dinner. We truly enjoyed our stay and our quit quant croft with deer and birds a plenty. The Dickens dinner was absolutely my favorite as we had a 5 corurse meal with story telling by the General Manager between each course. As I closed my eyes I was transformed back into the days of Scrooge and I eagerly anticipated the next pause in courses for the story to continue. Our meal was exquisite mine with a main course of duck breast and my wife with a main course of Pork Tenderloin.

The MacDougal Croft was decorated very keenly as you transformed from South Eastern Ohio to Scotland. The see-through fireplace, the warm and cozy robes and the walk in shower for two was built for romance and comfort.

The staff was friendly and inviting from the desk clerk to our wait staff to the Executive Chef who visited each table to finally our short and interesting conversation with the Inn Keeper and his wife in the Pub prior to dinner and during breakfast.

Bring your own spirits as they do not serve alcohol but will gladly serve what you bring.

You won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: The MacDOugal is Handicap accessible

“Exceptional Food, Quiet and Peaceful Relaxation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

This quiet, romantic B&B is a short 50 minute drive from Columbus, but you quickly enter a different world where life goes at a slower pace. Glenlaurel feels like your own private getaway, deep in the woods, where you are pampered and surrounded by understated luxury and elegance. Our recent two-night stay provided a much-needed respite from "regular life," and though expensive, was well worth the money.

Our croft accommodations were spacious, sparkling clean, quiet, comfortable and elegant, with a gas fireplace, a kitchenette, overstuffed sofa, and easy chair, a separate bedroom with queen bed and very comfortable linens, nice bath with a two-person shower, not to mention a private deck and outdoor hot tub. Free Wifi is available. We opted for an in-room hot stone massage which was expertly administered by a polite masseuse in the privacy of our own cottage.

Best of all, however, were our meals. We have dined in many fine restaurants, and the food here is right up there with the best. On Saturday night we were called to dinner by the charming sound of distant Scottish bagpipes. Our multi-course dinner included assorted cheeses, a seared shrimp appetizer, duck confit in baked phylo, fantastic mushroom bisque, frenched lamb chops with potatoes and asparagus, creme brulee with fresh berries, -- all of it superb. . Everything was perfectly prepared, perfectly done, beautifully presented, absolutely delicious, and professionally served in intimate candlelit surroundings, leaving us charmed and delighted. The attention to detail was extraordinary. Chef Erik and his staff sould be proud of what they accomplish here. Remember that you also bring your own wine here, which the staff are happy to uncork and serve at no extra charge, which actually makes the dining experience quite affordable and a very good value considering the excellent quality. Be sure to inquire about the dinner menu in advance and bring your own selection of wine(s) to accompany your food. Breakfasts (which are served until 11 a.m.and included in the room rate) are equally delicious.

Our only suggestions: upgrade the ancient television sets (which they bring to your room on request to play movie DVDS at a nominal extra charge). Why not install unobtrusive flat screens in the bedrooms, and ditch the queen-size beds in favor of kings. Other than that, please don't change a thing! Expensive but worth it!

We really appreciate your positive review and are so glad you had an exceptional experience during your stay. We take great pride in the service, as well as the quality of food, that we extend to our guests. We feel privileged to have such a wonderful and talented staff.

We will be upgrading the TVs in the units this year to flat screen TV’s so the next time you visit, we hope you are able to enjoy this new feature. Since your visit, we now have our liquor license and have a fantastic selection of wine, beer and scotch, all of which complement the fine dining experience, as well as the social atmosphere at pub time.

“Loved it”

We stayed at glen laurel for an anniversary in oct 2009 and have been dying to go back ever since. Just loved the grounds, the lodging and the scones. We stayed at the inn at cedar falls the first night and glen laurel the second. Liked glen laurel better, but the food at inn at cedar falls (dinner at least breakfast was pretty even) was far superior. Thought dinner was ok at glen laurel just not spectacular. Can't wait to back for a weekend soon!

Thank you very much for your feedback. We value your opinion and strive to always make Glenlaurel a more special experience for all of our guests.Regarding our menu, we have a different style of service and food than the Inn at Cedar Falls and we are very disappointed to hear that you felt our food was less superior. We take great pride in all the selections, preparations and service that we offer and we get many guests who are blown away by our level of service and the European style of food that we serve. We would love it if you gave Glenlaurel another try. We are confident that you won’t be disappointed a second time.

We went for a 7 course dinner on a Saturday. The food was remarkable, and our server was very attentive and professional. He even lit the fire in the lobby for us when we were cold before dinner. This place really is a gem. Hope to stay over night sometime. Grounds are kept pristine.
