First time staying at the Holiday Inn Express Perrysburg. First off, the location is excellent. It's right next to I-75 and US-23. Downtown Perrysburg is a few miles to the northwest, Toledo is about ten miles north, and Detroit is about an hour north. Many restaurants and stores near the hotel.
On arrival, the front desk staff was very helpful. She informed me that since I am a Priority Club member, I am entitled to late checkout (up to 2PM instead of noon) and a free pay per view movie. That's a nice touch- from other conversations I've noticed this hotel really values their members. In the lobby, there was also free coffee, bottled water, and depending on when you are there, danishes.
Looking at the property, it was likely built in the 1970s, and it shows in some areas. First off, the design. The hotel has two stories, yet no elevator. The pool and spa is roughly in the center of the long and snaking hallway. Fitness center is on the second floor above the lobby. Going in there, I noticed it used to be a guest room that was remodeled. Breakfast bar is to your left on the lobby floor, more on that later. There are a few ice machines and a vending machine near the pool. Business center is tiny with just one computer tucked away. Laundry room is near there too. Banquet halls are to the left of there- I did not venture down that hall but I believe there were four or five of them. Decor is mostly modern, but some traces of 1970s era still remain. Guests have multiple entrances, again a relic of that era. Overall, not a big deal to me personally.
I stayed in a standard room with king sized bed, and that was fine. Room itself was a bit small, but contained two end tables, desk with many outlets, chair in the corner, and table for coffee and such. No closet, but many coat hangers near the ironing board. The TV is a flat screen on the dresser. Channel selection seemed OK, but I didn't watch much TV at all. There is no microwave or fridge, but the more deluxe rooms have that option. Wi-fi is included.
The bathroom takes a hit for this review. It may be the smallest bathroom I've ever seen in any Holiday Inn brand. I was staying alone, so it didn't bother me too much. The shower however had low water pressure and no exhaust fan, so the mirror steamed up in a hurry. Everything else seemed OK.
The pool was decent size with the deepest point at 8 feet, however the water was a bit cold. Not sure if the cold temperatures outside had an effect on the water or not- the room itself was fairly warm. Spa was OK, though the whirlpool was a bit weak.
Fitness center is basic- a treadmill, two bikes and two other machines. It still feels a bit awkward being on the second floor.
The highlight was the breakfast bar. Pancakes, donuts, cinnamon rolls, sausage toast, fruit, you name it they had it! Very well stocked and tasty! The room is also very large with several tables and a TV- it may have been a small restaurant or bar many years ago.
I stayed for the winter rate of $79 a night. For that price, this hotel was well worth it. The normal spring/summer rate of around $104 a night is a bit pricy so I'm not sure I'd stay for that amount. I'd recommend a winter trip or weekend getaway.
