Was in this area of Ohio on business, and picked this hotel due to the location (right off of I-77) and the TripAdvisor Reviews. Here's a quick recap of why I'm giving it a poor rating (details follow):
Cleanliness issues - I've stayed at quite a few Hampton Inns and know what to expect, especially from an older property such as this one. Not looking for perfection, but when I checked into my room three things stood out:
1. It looked like a child had dipped his/her hands in ice cream and rubbed them all over the window. Not just a print or two, but hand prints and streaks that you couldn't see through.
2. Copious amounts of hair on the floor and in the towels in the bathroom (again you are going to see them now an then, but not this size and quantity!)
3. There was a very dirty washcloth hung over the shower nozzle - saw that after coming back from the front desk reporting the first two...that one kind of "sealed the deal".
Noise - there is one side of the hotel that faces the river, and the other side (which I was on) is right up against (and I mean right up against) the drive that runs between the hotel and the WalMart next door. I can't count the number of cars and trucks that would drive by, and it sounded as if my window was wide open and the cars were only a few feet away (window was closed, but cars/trucks were only a few feet away). The noice was constant, and immeasurably louder than the airport hotel I stayed at in Columbus a week earlier. Not exaggerating - I couldn't believe how loud it was.
So...stayed there that night and checked out early the next day to stay elsewhere. Didn't try out the fitness center, guest laundry, business center or pool - but the hotel did have them. Thought the rate of $121 was also a bit high for the area.
All that being said, I would like to compliment the front desk staff - they were great, extremely friendly and professional, and offered to make amends for the stay which I really appreciated. The breakfast area was typical Hampton, decent continental items, kept well stocked and plenty of tables with views of the river from which to choose.
But, cleanliness (#1) and quiet-ness are top factors for hotel selection and recommendation, and unfortunately - for my stay - this hotel failed at both. I will likely be back in the area again on business later this year, but don't feel comfortable giving this property another try.
