Have not been to Napoleon since high school 35 years ago. My girlfirend and I lucked across the B&B's website and had simply the most romantic, comfortable and peaceful weekend we could have imagined. Ed and Mary were great--we enjoyed chatting with them about history, their travels, the town and the weather. Ed and Mary are quintessentially Ohioan--decent, smart, educated, wordly, interested farm people--warm and welcoming. The house is big and beautiful, ornate and also distinctly Ohioan, rich in history. And the food--filling, bursting with Ohio jellies and vegetables, textured and scrumptuous. We spend all our time on the west and east coast thinking we want to find heaven--all we needed was a little Ohio and the Augusta Rose is everything a loving couple wants to find in a bed and breakfast. We will go back soon and often to get lost in a quiet land.

I had to go to a class reunion in Napoleon, Ohio and just didn't want to stay at one of the local motels I didn't think this small town offered much---until I "googled" a bed and breakfast.
That's when I found The Augusta Rose. I called the owners---who answered the phone. I checked out their website. To be honest their website does not do the huge Victorian home justice.
When I arrived on August 3rd ---the weather (fortunately) was like spring time. The Augusta Rose was surrounded outside by beautiful sunflowers and much more. Mary (the owner) has your "green thumb". I immediately eyed the wrap around huge porch and couldn't wait to sit outside to sip a cup of tea or something.
My friend and I were greeted at the door by Mary's warm smile. Her husband was out of town. Inside..was just beautiful--- full of antiques and much history. It is so well decorated and you feel like you're visiting "grandma's house".
Mary took us upstairs and showed us the 4 bedrooms available. Three of them had their own bathrooms...our's was across the hall. But it was fine. Our room was just beautiful---so quaint, so clean, so charming.
Mary provides you with those thick posh bath robes and wonderful towels. Just like those you get in fancy 5 star hotels in NYC.
And in the morning--she makes a delicious breakfast with great coffee.
My reunion was a great success---but The Augusta Rose and Mary made my stay just a great summer memory.
Napoleon is about 45 miles west of Toledo, Ohio. A great place to stay---and take a drive down the road along the Maumee River. You'll see hundreds of farm fields and green pastures. Good ol' Midwest. Enjoy.
FYI---the prices are super reasonable. I will stay there again!
