“Not up to the Hilton Brand Standard. Sme”
I stay at this hotel frequently since it's close to where I work and my company has a preferred rate here. If it wasn't required, I would have never stayed here after the first night. Unfortunately, I've logged more than 50 stays in this hotel.
My issues (and surprisingly, two compliments):
1. While the lobby is nice, the rest of the hotel is shabby. They recently replaced the carpet and wall paper in the hallway so it looks a bit newer.
2. The hotel still allows smokers. HELLO it's 2009 - haven't we heard of the Clean Air Act. The hotel does have smoking and non-smoking rooms, however it's still in the same hallway and the non-smoking rooms aren't true non-smoking. When the smoking rooms are all booked, they let smokers stay and smoke in the non-smoking rooms. This hotel perpetually smells like stale bar air - even if I don't wear all the clothes I bring with me, I still have to wash everything when I get home since they smell like stale bar air. The last time I stayed here, the smell of smoke in my non-smoking room was so overpowering, that my eyes were watering, the sheets were permeated with the stench - I actually considered taking the blanket outside and sleeping in my car.
3. The coffee sucks. Marriott actually has good coffee, but the HGI is terrible - tastes like old dishwater.
4. Breakfast buffet is actually pretty good.
5. Lobby is always freezing. Winter, spring, summer - you'd think they'd get the hint when people are in the lobby wearing coats.
6. Staff is nice.
7. Gym is shabby/outdated, but they do give you free passes to the personal training gym down the road which is really nice.
I could have given them 1 star, but the offsite gym and buffet saved them. If the smoking issue didn't exist and the coffee was good I might even give them 3 stars or 4 stars.
