“An unfolding panorama of beautiful views heightened by great service and wonderful food.”

The Kabuki experience starts with the whimsical 'Kabuki Duck Crossing signs'. You then enter via the Japanese style inn to be met with wonderful vistas of Great Oyster Bay and peaceful musical sounds. In this setting we experienced a delicious Japanese meal with a Tasmanan flare. The accommodation is nestled on the side of the cliff face. From the bedside or small lounge in the rooms you can view 30 metres below the lapping of the ocean against the shore and Great Oyster Bay. The mood and colours of the Bay change constantly. This is an experience that is rare to find worldwide - exhilarating, beautiful and restful. The service is outstanding and friendly. The gourmet food is excellent.

“Food was good setting a bit tired”

Having missed out on eating here 10 years ago on our last visit I was really looking forward to the experience as it came highly recommended then. The food was good but not sensational the setting is a bit tired and a little grubby. When I see a place like this in such a fabulous location selling other odds and sods in the actual restaurant I think it has a few problems and they are trying to supplement the income. By all means have those items in the foyer but not in the actual restaurant. I see it is up for sale on the net, possibly the owners have lost the passion and new owners will restore it to a great venue as I believe it was. The location couldn't be better!!! Still worth a visit.

Room Tip: We didn't stay just dined there.

“Never ever come to this restaurant”

I visited this restaurant while I having a holiday in Hobart last several days. restaurant view is good. that's it. However, the food was terrible. we ordered large bento, califonia roll, chicken terriyaki, Japanese platter and miso soup. Firstly, raw fish was disgusting. It is very old smelly and had cut by normal kitchen knife. I can cut better than that. The noodle come with Bento was gone, after i ate some i feel vomited. All other food in Bento was couple of days old they looks like just heat it again and put in into tray. Secondly, they put wasabi in califonia roll......Thirdly, Japanese platter was so small and raw fish was terrible quality. Finally, their price is so expensive. One miso soup cost $4.90 hello~~~Anyway, I think that this terrible restaurant ranked too far high or have a good marketing with tourism of Hobart. I believe that this is rip off customer who come all the way from Hobart to here.

“Gorgeous setting, but somewhat disappointing”

We stayed for a couple of nights at Kabuki by the Sea between Christmas and New Year. The setting is nothing short of stunning, and the units are a bit past their prime. Unfortunately the lack of water pressure made for a very cold shower with the water just trickling out. The restaurant was the biggest disappointment. The, very friendly, waitress ensured me that the baby abalone would be nice and tender, and if not I could "throw it a her head"... She was lucky I wasn't raised that way, because it was tough as old boots... The other dishes were very bland and not quite up to the expectations that we had following previous guest's recommendations. Overall, it's not a terribly bad place, but unfortunately not quite what we were expecting. the restaurant in town, "the Banc", made up for the poor food on the first night though. Well worth a visit.
