Renison Cottages (or, at least, Henty Cottage) is best avoided. Although quite reasonable in terms of price, and well located just behind the harbourfront, 'Henty Cottage' has seen much better days and requires a makeover.
To begin with, the 2 arm chairs which overwhelmed the kitchen/living area had nasty grease stains from years of wear right where you should be resting your head or arms, and need to be replaced. This aspect of the accommodation immediately made me think of things I didn't want to be thinking about, and following this my partner was even hesitant to use the bath.
The service was not up to scratch: although quite prompt in terms of communication when booking, on arrival, the cottage was an absolute ice box and took close to an hour to warm. It would have been nice if the heating had been turned on prior to our arrival, and this should have been obvious to the proprieters (particularly considering it was May on the west coast of Tasmania!!). It must be noted that the cottage never really warmed to a 'cosy' standard that we would have liked, particularly when on holiday. In addition to this, no tea or milk was provided and needed to be purchased. Overall, there appeared to be no thought put in to the accommodation or the service, the most telling example of this being there was no pen with the guestbook (which is just as well, as I would have made my complaints known!).
In addition to this (and, I feel, most importantly), the cottage felt unsafe. The front door appeared to be a bit of plywood and the lock may as well have been non existent.
Our concerns were not raised with the owners as we could not contact them (no mobile reception in Strahan!) and did not see them (our keys were left at the door of the accommodation).
Walking around lovely Strahan there appeared to be numerous accommodation options. Stay elsewhere.
